While I'm not going to make a big "I'm leaving Twitter" announcement for this account, it's clear that a platform that welcomes back the creator of The Daily Stormer is not one where I personally feel comfortable regularly contributing and adding value.

I might post a "here's where you can find me" tweet from time to time, but that's probably going to be it. LinkedIn: https://t.co/TiAk1I7ybI Mastodon: https://t.co/0NyTxuQh8D Instagram: https://t.co/KKjUhhPbFN TikTok: https://t.co/VJxpUkHcaL Podcast:

It's a big internet, with many destinations. Time is short. There are all sorts of communities and platforms where people care more than Twitter's current leadership. If it's not simply about the likes, you can probably find a more fulfilling way to spend your time. Good luck!

As Yoel Roth flees his home due to threats that are driven by Musk, community, moderation, trust, and safety professionals have to reckon with a simple truth: Musk would do the same thing to you, if he bought the thing you're working on. How does that inform your Twitter usage?

Eventually, I think you'll be confronted with a question: If I don't see myself as someone who would join Gab, Parler, or Truth Social, why am I spending my time on Twitter? Are you fighting the bad guys? Or are you just spinning yourself in circles and keeping traffic up?

Twitter is now on a steady slide toward Gab, Parler, and Truth Social. When you're unbanning the creator of The Daily Stormer and you're playing in QAnon antisemitic tropes about rescuing children, what's left? What separates this place from those places? The answer: Nothing.

I have criticized Twitter often over the years, and they've had too many issues to count, but what I have realized is that the things that made Twitter good and worth sticking around for, those are the things that Musk is eroding. To put it simply: This place stinks.

It's been a week since I deleted the Twitter app from my phone and stepped away from this site and, honestly, I'd recommend everyone give that a try, just for the perspective that it gives you. I know I left the door open to occasional participation, but I don't want to be here.

I'll see you around. Maybe here, but more likely... somewhere else. Thanks for following me.

Maybe this will change one day. But it's clear that Twitter is headed toward somewhere not good and will be there for a while.

I have already reduced my Twitter usage, but given all of this, I think it's time for this DAU to become more of a WAU or even a MAU. I'm deleting the app from my phone. I'll be here occasionally. This is a good excuse to start writing again. Perhaps I'll share those links here.

I see these tweets from random business types talking about how Musk is inspiring the next generation of leaders with how he's treated Twitter's workforce. I hope that's not true, but I know one thing: He's inspiring the next generation of nazis.
Elon unsuspended ANDREW ANGLIN?! This is a momentous day for 2022 actual nazis, and I'm not exaggerating. The practical difference between Twitter and Gab is now insignificant. Reputable companies won't touch Anglin's The Daily Stormer, and they shouldn't touch Twitter.

Musk is not only undermining this profession, however, he's encouraging abuse of those within it. People who make tough decisions in an effort to make the internet just a little bit better. They don't deserve this.
Elon Musk is engaged in a prolonged effort to diminish and undermine those who do community, moderation, trust, and safety work. This is a group that receives substantial abuse, and he's encouraging more of it. As such, it no longer makes sense for Community Signal to be here.

Elon Musk's decisions so far have essentially been the antithesis of my life's work. I'd go so far as to say the antithesis of good community, moderation, trust, and safety work. We ground ourselves in empathy. His decisions are grounded in himself.
I believe the core of good moderation, trust, and safety work is empathy. In this case, empathy is being able to understand the harm that another being could face, and work to protect them from it, even if it's harm that you yourself have never and will never face.

If you thought the Twitter Files were bad, just wait until you learn that anyone could report a tweet and Twitter would consider taking it down!

But Twitter is no longer a platform where the ultimate powers that be are applying a level of care or take that idea seriously. It's a lark for the world's richest man, and he doesn't care because the impact of his decisions will never touch him. Gross. Find other platforms.

I just can't get over this. Anglin is the type who should be a default ban on all platforms that have any ounce of care put into them. He's an easy ban, a ban that all reasonable folks generally agree on. A total no brainer. It's not courageous to ban him. It's obvious.

The best disinfectant is to ban the nazis and keep banning them forever.

"Sunshine is the best disinfectant" is something that unserious people say on here. At best, sunshine might be the best disinfectant ONCE. If you keep spreading bacteria over and over again, the best disinfectant is ... to stop spreading bacteria. And stop defending nazis.
