I'm rediscovering python after a few years, and between @astral_sh and @modal_labs, I'm completely blown away by how fun it is. no more env/dep insanity, and practically instant remote code execution 🎉.

you no longer need to "package" code in a separate step before shipping it, now the loop between producing code (either by a human or an AI) and running it can be much tighter.

really excited by all these new sandbox APIs - I think non AI generated use cases on top of these are really interesting too. Clouds are basically becoming more programmable - the lines between infra and code are blurring.

very cool to see a small go library I put together 3+ years ago is actually used - had no idea, was surprised to find 5 backlogged PRs 😬 (now merged!) and 900+ public projects listing it as a dependency

It’s not just a more ergonomic or better documented SDK (tho that’s certainly an element) - it’s a totally new level of abstraction that unlocks a new way of thinking… “wow, now I can build X”.

I think the best measure of “good developer experience” in a product is if it makes you realize you can build something that didn’t feel possible before.

Maybe I’m naive, maybe there’s good reason for the big tangle - but I want to learn more!. If you have strong opinions about this - please help educate me - I’m in idea mode and happy to have conversations.

There’s typically a tangle of ETL-ing, data-warehouse-ing, maybe some dbt-ing, BI-ing and general ops-ing to make it all work. I’m curious to see what a “one click” solution for *some* of this could look like.

I’m looking to explore this more. Part of my motivation has been realizing that it’s actually quite difficult for some companies to answer basic questions about who their customers are and where their revenue comes from - in an aggregated way.

For now, it’s based on very simple facets (rough industry categories and company sizes), but I’m exploring some ideas to make this more robust - including AI based categorizations (like Clay smart columns).

One of the cooler aspects of it (I think) is that it allows you to segment your Stripe revenue based on these attributes.

It allows founders to answer basic questions about who's buying their product (what industries, size, funding stage, location etc), and gives them a starting point to find out more.

The app connects your Stripe customers with firmographic information (and recent news) about the companies buying your product (if the customer uses a work email).

Yesterday, @stripe Sessions wrapped - but one very important announcement was missed. The launch of my “weekend project” Stripe app, made for SaaS founders 😄. Building it was a fun excuse to learn and use the Stripe Apps SDK. 🧵
