“We’re in the cloud, but we’re not using the cloud.” That candid admission from a senior IT leader at a large insurance company reflects a common challenge: lifting and shifting legacy systems won’t deliver cloud’s full potential—or prepare teams for AI. Learn what leading

Most teams use Terraform to standardise infrastructure. But what if you could get all the benefits of Terraform without writing a single line of code? We've put together a full guide on how you can get started here: https://t.co/BQTBAYjMot

The result is zero trust for non human actors that actually works. Agentic AI systems, microservices, ephemeral compute, multi cloud environments. All of them break the old model of workload identity. SPIFFE fixes the foundation. Vault makes it operational.

The moment a workload proves it is legitimate, Vault assigns its SPIFFE identity. The full lifecycle is logged, traceable, and governed. This turns SPIFFE from theory into something production teams can rely on.

Vault Enterprise 1.21 closes that gap with native SPIFFE authentication. Vault now validates workloads and issues X509-SVIDs automatically. 🚫No custom pipelines. 🚫No manual certificate handling. 🚫No brittle provisioning.

So where does Vault 1.21 fit into this? SPIFFE gives you the standard, but someone still has to issue, rotate, revoke, and audit these identities at enterprise scale. That is the operational gap most teams cannot bridge on their own. https://t.co/NPNV04UCBf

And SPIFFE goes further. Workloads rarely stay inside one cloud. SPIFFE identities can be federated across domains, letting services in different clouds or organisations establish trust without sharing secrets or manually wiring policy.

These identities, called SVIDs, are short lived, automatically rotated, and validated through mTLS. That means any workload can prove its identity, not just claim it. It removes blind trust from service to service communication.

This is the root problem SPIFFE was designed to solve. SPIFFE gives every workload a cryptographically verifiable identity tied to what it is and where it came from, not a credential someone copied into an environment variable six months ago.

Today, workloads spin up, scale out, replicate, shift environments, and disappear in seconds. A static secret cannot represent something that never stands still. The identity becomes stale before the workload finishes booting.

Most organisations still rely on static credentials for non-human workloads. Tokens, API keys, long lived certs. These were built for systems that hardly moved. But that world is gone... https://t.co/7ZPpeU7DsS

With the 1.21 release, Vault Enterprise now natively supports SPIFFE authentication. Why is this such a big deal? Because the identity model for modern workloads is broken, and SPIFFE is the first credible fix 👇
