1. PSEUDOGOBLET CELLS. Continuous and linear pattern and lack the strong blue staining of acid mucin when stained with alcian blue. 2. TRUE GLOBET CELLS. Singly dispersed, pale gray on H&E, and due to acid mucin they turn intense blue with alcian blue stain. #GIpath

While causes of IBS are unknown, they found a positive feedback loop where 5-HT7 plays a key role. This may lead to a promising treatment using 5-HT7 antagonist which would improve the quality of life for millions of sufferers. So checkout the latest and greatest in this paper!

Colonic biopsies due to chronic pain are very common in Pathology labs. Chang et al describe mechanisms of hypernociception from IBD in this awesome paper: https://t.co/Rsb2PBrZdq A must read! @DCF_path #GIpath #IBD

▪️Piet Mondrian Mondrian is known for his straight lines and pure colors, orderly and mathematical. However, some of his early works with serene landscapes reminds us of the diverse structures of neurons in the central nervous system #pathart #pathtwitter #pathology #pathologist

▪️Jackson Pollock Perhaps the greatest figure in the abstract expressionist movement. His "drip technique" is reminiscent of loose connective tissue that is stained with charcoal from a submucosal tattoo and other dyes. #pathart #pathtwitter #pathology #pathologist #GIpath

▪️Leonid Afremov The use of his impressionistic spatula is unmistakable and unique. His technique reminds us of the epithelial cells seen in cytological smears. #pathart #pathtwitter #pathology #pathologist #histology #cytopath

▪️Georgia O'Keeffe She captured the endless expanses of clouds as observed from an airplane window. For us, “Sky above the clouds IV” is reminiscent of a nonkeratinized squamous epithelium. #pathart #pathtwitter #pathology #pathologist #histology #GIpath

▪️Gustav Klimt His work with gold leaf reminds us of bile salts, but this isn’t the only aspect of his work. His radiating rings, swirling and concentric spirals reminds us of Hassal corpuscles in the thymus. #pathart #pathtwitter #pathology #pathologist #histology #GIpath

▪️Van-Gogh His thick brushstrokes can capture movement. We think that ovarian stroma has some “impasto” similar to Van Gogh's works. #pathart #pathtwitter #pathology #pathologist #histology #GYNpath #VanGogh

ART & PATHOLOGY From Kandinsky to Georgia O'Keeffe, it’s almost as if these artists peered into a microscope to find inspirations for some of their works. Follow the 🧵 to see similarities between these masterpieces and benign tissue samples. @DCFpath #pathart #PathTwitter

8/9 Hyalohyphomycetes are a diverse group with similar tissue forms, but treatments vary tremendously. Namely, Scedosporium apiospermum does not respond to Amphotericin B, but Aspergillus does. So, by stating that it’s Aspergillus, one may have misdirected the treatment.

7/9 For example: ❌ "compatible with Aspergillus" ✅ "Hyaline, septate, branching fungal hyphae with morphology shared by Aspergillus, Fusarium and Scedosporium, and other hyalohyphomycetes, identification by culture or molecular methods is recommended. " #DCF_path #pathology

6/9 ⚠️ Avoid terminology like "compatible with [ specific fungi ] ” This can limit differential diagnosis and treatment because you can’t ascertain the genus and species. Instead, focus on the description and potential suspects. #DCF_path #pathology #pathologist
