Our last stop was a very remote town in Shandong. The restaurant would be zero stars Scores on the Doors in the UK. The food was certainly fresh, we were invited to choose by a Chinese Rab C Nesbit chef with a fag in his mouth. This was the night I really missed beans on toast.

Food can also be interesting. They are nose to tail eaters. Everything is a potential a meal, except pandas. Each supplier took us to dinner, not appreciating that every competitor did the same. All were eager to please and challenge it seems. I have tried. .

Since April I've been to China 3 times moving around many cities visiting potential suppliers of raw materials. China is a wonderful country, the people are friendly and generous. I always felt safe but communication can be an issue. Construction is going on everywhere.
