The powers that be in Minneapolis politics maintain a relentless meat grinder of polarization and sabotage so that despite the fact we are a town filled with earnest policy wonks who want to affect real change, they rightfully peter out after a few years of the punishment
To be clear, I have not resigned or been dismissed from any DFL role I currently hold. I am carefully considering whether and how I may go forward in these roles. I will likely not serve as a chair or parli at any DFL conventions or meetings for the foreseeable future.

Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association Safety and Security Summit on October 3 (2023) at the Mill City Museum. I sat next to (then candidate) Scott Graham. Introduced myself to Shaffer afterwards. Stuck around and talked with (now former) Metro Transit Chief Morales.

the DFL CBRC challenge hearing has begun. i'll be live tweeting
ahead of this DFL CBRC hearing, i have read most of the challenges. a not insignificant number have their remedy as “abolish the minneapolis DFL” or “abolish caucuses.” these are not serious, and hopefully they can be tossed just for such a ridiculous remedy

If ever there were a time to turn down the temperature in local politics it's now. Factionalism and meanness get views, but weaken us as a party and make it difficult to find common ground.

So I think this month is the Midtown Greenway’s 25th birthday. I feel like it has to be one of the top city defining things built in in the last quarter decade? Can’t imagine the city without it… Would love to see your favorite greenway photos 📷

Elizabeth Shaffer and crew did campaign photos and videos on The Mall last hour. She introduced herself to some unhoused folks as parks commish and promised to call Street Reach. I went downstairs to say hello, but she bicycled away for the cameras.

Campaign finance update: Elizabeth Shaffer raised $123k in the last six months for a grand total of $144k. She's spent $66k through July. Nearly $77k cash remaining on hand. Kinda obscene if you ask me.

Riding a midday bus and waiting patiently at the Midtown Hennepin County Service Center to apply for a new REAL ID card is one of life’s truly democratic experiences.

I’ve seen a lot of false information circulating in the weeks following the Minneapolis DFL convention. Some of it feels like reading Jan 6 voter conspiracy theories, so as the person who stepped in as head teller + audited the voting system, I’d like to set the record straight🧵

Homelessness is not solved by encampment clearing People are still on the streets in large numbers, but hidden There is not enough shelter space by a factor of several hundreds on any given night https://t.co/LxlcKqL9ik

The city reports fewer encampment closures, more shelter placements and fewer 911 calls. At least one community organizer is questioning how Minneapolis measures success.

#OnThisDay July 26 1896: Scene on the new bicycle path around Lake Harriet. In the 1890s bicycles became wildly popular, with 30,000 in Minneapolis alone. Minnesotans who embraced bicycling helped influence many changes in American society, from shorter skirts to better roads.

I posted about the history of Aquatennial because I feel it’s important to learn from our history in order to be a better City. We should acknowledge, not shudder away from the darker moments of our past. Learning about this was certainly insightful to me!
Today is the Minneapolis Aquatennial parade. What is commonly thought of as a Civic Celebration of the rivers, lakes, and streams of Minneapolis actually has an upsetting origin story. As we enter into this celebration, I want to ground us in the history of Aquatennial. 1/10

Funny 'cause I almost turned Shaffer away when she entered the floor without a guest badge prior to standing near the stage and waving a sign during Frey's speech. Such strong opinions from someone with so few connections to the DFL party.
