Excited to finally share our recent paper, which presents novel methods for estimating paleoflood discharge in alluvial rivers that lack unregulated gauge data. This represents years of work with my co-author and advisor @fluvi_AL from my dissertation!.

3/ Moderate drought or worse & long lasting dry periods (>10 yrs) were highly significant precursors to extreme floods in the last 1500 yrs. Understanding these compound hazards is important for risk management as modern climate change increases drought and rainfall intensity.

2/ Extreme floods clustered under three concurrent conditions: 1) warm-season precipitation increased, 2) antecedent drought, & 3) abrupt shifts in climate where the rate of change in the hydroclimate regimes exceeded the rate of geomorphic response within the watershed.
