one of my favorite podcasts we’ve ever done. we put in a lot of research to unearth some great stories & quotes from past recruitments. here are a few graphs I made to show the evolution of Oregon recruiting post-2000:

Fowler and Herbstreit can't stop putting their foot in their mouth trying to pump up the Bama, Texas, and the SEC. who wants this? Texas went to overtime with Kentucky... who lost 41-0 to Louisville last week!! Bama has 2 losses by a combined 35 points, including to 5-7 FSU!!

optimistic about this hire. Mehringer is heavily involved with playcalling so this is the smoothest transition with a big season ahead. Lanning has a great track record with staff hires and hasn't settled for internal promotions very often. I'll trust him until proven otherwise.
Oregon is expected to name Drew Mehringer as its new offensive coordinator, sources tell me and @chris_hummer for @CBSSports. Mehringer, Oregon’s co-OC and tight ends coach, has helped Oregon rank top 10 nationally in scoring three of the last four years.

Ohio State blindsided an 18 year-old 30 minutes before his signing that his #1 relationship was gone. who's fault is that? Oregon has been a top 5 program consistently under Lanning and the staff has built strong relationships with CHJ too. these people are utter morons.
Chris Henry Jr is acting like Ohio State without Hartline is Northwest Mississippi Community College lol

circling back here. I think the two factors that are consistently underrated are money and coach egos. it's hard for people to turn down a guaranteed 30+ million dollars even when they're making great money already. it makes it easy to be optimistic. https://t.co/ocffUftrmQ
I genuinely believe this would be a terrible career move for Stein. if it isn't a top tier SEC / B1G job then you might as well take a Big 12 or ACC job with actual playoff upside. it will be a miracle to go 8-4 at Kentucky.

one last ride for old times' sake 🥺🦆 @CoachWillStein
Per a source, Stein is expected to call Oregon’s offense throughout the College Football Playoff. He’ll juggle both jobs until the Oregon season ends.

don't get it twisted, Stein has been an ELITE OC at Oregon for 3 years. wish him the best, but this is a gut punch. on the flip side, Lanning has made home run hires at nearly every staff opening since he took over. a lot will ride on this one.

USC missed Ohio State and Indiana. even Washington likely would've given them a game. when they played Notre Dame and Oregon they got handled throughly. I think Riley is clueless if he believes this year fully turned the corner. and that will become clear in 2026.

genuinely question: how many times this year did USC look like a playoff contender? seems to me that the answer is once, against Michigan. maybe half credit for Iowa.

Jeff Brohm is going to leave at some point. you might as well just wait for Louisville man. you can take over a solid operation and win 10 or 11 games there with some breaks. Kentucky is setting yourself up to be demoted back to a coordinator in 4 years.

One of the early popular names coming up among industry sources as a possibility for the Kentucky head coaching opening: Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein. Kentucky native who has been Dan Lanning’s offensive coordinator at Oregon the last three years.

Ole Miss should not be dropped in the CFP rankings in my opinion. However, this is clear issue with the committee explicitly saying over and over that they are ranking the "best" instead of the "most deserving." Ole Miss is not one of the 10 best teams without Kiffin and Weis.
Las Vegas @CircaSports oddsmaker tells @On3sports it would downgrade Ole Miss up to 4 points w/out Lane Kiffin. If selection committee does the same in rankings, it could mean difference b/w Rebels hosting home playoff game or opening on the road https://t.co/M1kWi8l180

Oregon has controlled & won 3 games vs top-20 quality teams over this final stretch. despite leaving some points on the board, that is a legit resume. need to execute more cleanly and get healthy now. I am very excited to see this group compete in big playoff games. #GoDucks 🦆
