Among Test hundred scored against India by Smiths, Ian’s 136-ball 173 (Auckland 1989/90) was the most astonishing. New Zealand were done and dusted at 85-6 and then 131-7 but Smith took them to 391. Of course, that man Hadlee was there, as always.
