Accepting and rejecting papers is an archaic practice that is terrible for science. It strips peer review of its value & institutionalizes the practice of judging scientists based on where, rather than what, they publish. It's time for this system to go. https://t.co/tD1BovOzLd

There is an obvious - and potentially central - role for scientific societies in this new publishing world. Instead of publishing journals, they should make their business to publicly review every preprint produced in or relevant to their field.

There's a real need to get past the smoke and mirrors of "prestige", and to focus on the substance of the work when evaluating research. This message needs to start at the top, but also needs to be embedded concretely in P&T policies
