Once in a while, I'll stumble across a story that feels like it was meant for me. Birthed from a Hong Kong immigrant, Connie's is everything that's great about Houston: egg rolls, gumbo and coctel. more at @chron

@oop_echeng About a decade ago, there was an active effort to cast the show in Houston. They had casting folks down here to talk to people, visited a house in Pearland, screen tests, etc. But the bold faced names they wanted, declined & the ones who wanted in weren’t cast.

NEW @HoustoniaMag : What actually counts as "Houston"? According to lifelong Houstonians, highways, police jurisdictions, and mailing addresses determine Houston's city limits. But urbanists say Houston, with its "scrambled egg" structure, is unique. https://t.co/SfQA7NZLA8

Mayor Whitmire during debate on whether it's okay to use a stormwater drainage fund to demolish abandoned buildings: "The public's not going to question. They just want to get it done ... The people I visit with are not going to ask you about which fund."

I wrote about the experience of reporting the true story behind the film "Rosemead," and how cases like these are not as rare as you might expect.

So many rom-coms tried to recreate this scene since and none of them have had the juice like this did
and to think we only got this beautiful scene because rob reiner met his future wife during when harry met sally’s production and fell so in love that he changed the ending so harry and sally could end up together too. rip rob reiner and his wife michele :( https://t.co/uKlbHwjH02

For the first time in the modern era, a sitting mayor of Houston has lost the support of his own party. That did not happen by accident. 1/10 🧵
