And 21 - 25 is early adulthood, not full adulthood. Another reason why they keep it at 18 is so that men can marry and exploit very young women. For instance, In India, Minimum age for marriage differs by gender 21 for men, 18 for women. Need I say more

When America reduced the legal drinking age to 18, they saw a dramatic rise in car crashes involving young drivers, they moved it back to 21 & saw a dramatic reduction. Like, it’s so obvious that 18 - 21 is a transition phase from adolescence to adulthood, not actual adulthood

This is why many countries still draw lines between legal adulthood and full adulthood depending on context. So for instance, in America, you need to be 21 to legally buy alcohol. In many parts of the world, you can’t run for higher political office if you’re younger than 25

Fun fact: Across much of the world under British influence, 21 was the age of legal adulthood It became 18 because of war. Governments needed more soldiers, and people argued that if 18 year olds could go & die in war, they should be allowed to live as adults, vote, marry etc
Now that we’re talking about age and consent. I strongly believe the age of consent and legal marriage should be from 20 and not 18. An 18 or 19 year old is still a teenager and should still be under parental guidance. 🙏🏾

Before 2020 I attended a shit load of protests. That’s how I met most of the feminist friends I have now. Brick by brick by showing up, donating, protesting, organising… for women. Then we used our existing infrastructure to show up for Nigeria & it turned our lives upside down.
