The time has come. 🎥 I'm finally glad to say i'm done with my HUGE archviz project that i've been working on for a while now. Awesome response from the unreal community on the forums and also @UnrealEngine and @Allegorithmic on twitter. Next adventure! #UE4 #SubstancePainter

🧵 by Alex. So many years of work and we finally have something to show for it. Feels good, and it’s just the beginning.
Finally, Chromia has a public testnet! Chromia is different from other networks: instead of deploying smart contracts into an existing chain, you deploy a new blockchain. And that's actually cheap and easy, it takes about 5 seconds to start a new blockchain, so it's not

I just had to quote this comment from reddit on the issues within big corps such as Google, its just so accurate.

Some general tips and to-do's if you are beginner (and advanced!) and want to achieve true realism in your 3d scenes, be it arnold, unreal, unity or any other renderer. 9🧵's

I have always wanted to make a thread like this! Thanks for reading, and may your renders always shine bright🥳

But many times you underestimate the about of light that an object ACTUALLY reflects. If i would say one thing that quckly gives away a good render, its the unnatrual roughness and specularity.

Something that always haunted me when i started out with 3D and photorealism was the ability to achieve a convincing roughness on my materials. Its less of a problem now with PBR and photoscans ->

I learned yesterday from my dad that the cottages built during the 1800s didnt use metal gutters, but were built with two 45 degree planks and a chain, at least here in Sweden. This allowed me to make my house even more convincing by using the same techniques that were used then.

Ask your friends, family, relatives or pets for feedback. Realism is not only about light and materials, its also about context. E.g if you are making a house, are you using the correct materials or techniques that were used at the time the house were built? ->

Once simple trick that i usually do once i have applied my texture to my model, is to extrude the geometry e.g planks, nuts, bolts metal, windows.. and carefully distort the edgeloops to make it look more organic. @Mrdodobird has great tutorials on these!

It is very popular to apply photoscan surfaces to your 3d models, e.g from Megascans. But often times the result does not end up convincing enough once put into a game engine. Certainly not if you dont use any form of displacement which can become very expensive. ->

Here is a 3d scan i did today that i wanted to study once i got home. It is a great reference since you can rotate and zoom on your scan. I wanted to investigate how i can achieve better blends between terrain and house, e.g how does nature interact with the house foundation.

Photoscan your surroundings! It is a very powerful tool that works with almost any phone today. There are many great photoscan apps, and usually a subscription costs very little for the usage you will get out of it.

I still believe most people don't go out enough to study their surroundings for a project. E.g how materials behave with its environment and light. It can be very difficult to understand how a material interacts with light if you only see it through a google image search.
