Jesus’ even points out the guilt they’ll bear for his death when prophesying about his own death in the parable about the tenant farmers (Matt 21:33–46).

Later, Peter speaking to “devout Jews from every nation” about Jesus’ death, while filled with the Holy Spirit, says: “this man, handed over to you according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law” (Acts 2:23)

Second, Pilate determined him innocent and was going to release him. He only gave in when the Jews said that they would accept the responsibility for his death. “Then the people as a whole answered, ‘His blood be on us and on our children!’ (Matt 27:25)

First, the Jewish leadership conspired to have Jesus killed: “When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Jesus in order to bring about his death. They bound him, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate” (Matt 27:1–2, NRSV)

While it was the Romans who literally crucified Jesus, the Jewish leadership bore guilt too. Continue ⬇️
