The #FAccT2024 CFP encourages authors to include in their papers 1) an ethical considerations statement, 2) a researcher positionality statement & 3) an adverse impact statement. To explain a bit the reasoning behind the change, we wrote a longer blogpost

How can we better think & talk about human-like qualities attributed to language technologies like LLMs? In our #CHI2025 paper, we taxonomize how text outputs from cases of user interactions w/ language technologies can contribute to anthropomorphism https://t.co/mA0XZ748jE 1/n

Do you remember this short position paper? It’s now published as an ICLR blogpost! 🎉We argue that understanding the impact of anthropomorphic AI is critical to understanding the impact of AI.

Back on social media after a very, very long break for a topic that I care deeply about: AI tools can support creators in various ways, but disclosing AI use may risk devaluing creative work. 1/n

Writers felt they could preserve their voice with AI but worried audiences and clients would not value AI-assisted work as much as their solo work. To learn more, check out the full paper here (to appear at CSCW'25):

As AI systems increasingly simulate human behavior, we must ask: How do we ensure they don’t amplify bias, deceive, or manipulate? This paper lays out a much-needed framework for responsible AI design. Its REALLY good. https://t.co/ysijHvCU3Y

In writing this, we were deliberate about our terminological choices and I hope this brief perspective also helps illustrate how we could talk about these systems and their characteristics in what I believe to be a more precise, rigorous and productive way

We argue that as the outputs of generative AI systems are increasingly anthropomorphic—*perceived* or described as human-like—we cannot thoroughly map their possible impacts without mapping the impacts of anthropomorphic AI systems https://t.co/oWdVUgiXYv

🎉📢 I'm on the tenure track job market! 👋✨ I study how people building “AI” think about the downstream harms their work makes possible, and the epistemic and political economic systems which shape their thoughts, and our future.
