Luckily, both advanced nuclear and carbon management tech is in development. Short of not cutting down your trees and planting new forests, investing in the ventures working in this space is the best thing you can do to contribute to solving climate: accelerate commercialization.

So what should we do? We urgently need:. Cessation of all deforestation activity.Reforestation on a global scale 🌲.Rapid decarbonization by replacing all #fossilfuels with scalable types of zero-emission energy—like advanced nuclear ⚛️.Commence global drawdown of CO₂ at scale.

This means we are no longer in a phase where decreasing our emissions is enough. Even reducing CO₂ levels is not enough. In order to prevent #globalwarming from spiraling out of our control, we must do more.

If forests help regulate climate but we're destroying them, things will rapidly unravel and make solving climate much harder. If true—and we think it is—it changes everything.

Unfortuately, we're losing forests at record rates:.

Thus, areas that have lost forests see increased local heating, which reduces moisture and rainfall, which itself causes further forest losses. It is this cycle which may be triggering the runaway heating—independent of CO₂. This is the very definition of a #tippingpoint.

Dr. Anastassia Makarieva, an atmospheric physicist, has studied the climate benefits of forests. She sees that growing loss of established forests greatly impacts local rainfall cycles. More importantly, she posits that loss of atmospheric moisture causes further #deforestation.

Data shows Earth is getting hotter faster than models predicted. Surface temps, ocean heat, polar melt—all off the charts. Scientists can't explain why this is. As @PGDynes recently shared, we’re heading into the unknown:
