Postdoc in Jen Gerton’s lab at Stowers Institute studying genome instability in cancers
Kansas City, MO
Joined March 2015
Paper out! My postdoc work on super-res 3D organization of human centromeres and cohesin is live now in @NatureComms We have defined core conserved features of the centromere and how extensive variations in centromere sizes are accomodated.
New #research from @notdatkndofdctr (@GertonJennifer Lab), published in @NatureComms explores the organization of human chromosomes at their centromeres—regions of #DNA typically located near the center, corresponding to the midpoint of the ‘X.’. MORE:

Joseph Gall’s has been an inspiration for so many Nuclear Biologists including me. His seminal contributions in the understanding of all nuclear organelles but especially Cajal bodies and the nucleolus have inspired me since my graduate school days and will continue to do so.
We are sad to report that the legendary Joseph Gall, called the founder of modern cell biology for his contributions to our understanding of chromosomes and the cellular nucleus, and a widely recognized champion for women in science, has died at 96.

Interesting study on Mosquito and human interactions.
I am very excited to share the news that our study was just published today that reveals that thermal infrared is a new cue that mosquitoes use in combination with other cues to home in on people. The detection mechanism depends on TRPA1 and two opsins.

Want a simple story about chromosomes? Here it is! This video is meant to teach basics of genetics to young minds. Hope this helps spark interest in budding chromosome biologists.
What exactly is a #chromosome? Ayantika Sen Gupta (@notdatkndofdctr), postdoc in the @GertonJennifer Lab, explains in our next #BioBasics episode – including why Institute scientists study them. 🧬 #biology #science. Learn more:
