A question for the zebrafishers out there. Does any know roughly how much a fin clip weighs?

Skin swabbing is quicker, cheaper and safer than fin clipping because it does not require anaesthetic or scalpels to be used. It may also reduce the number of animals required for some experiments.

It causes less activation of stress markers – in particular we did not see any change in cortisol release following swabbing compared to clipping. In addition, the data collected following this technique is also less variable meaning that fewer animals need to be tested

Our lab has recently published an NC3Rs-funded study in Scientific Reports comparing skin swabbing and fin clipping: https://t.co/izoRDbhwQa We show that skin swabbing is a refined technique to collect DNA from zebrafish and sticklebacks compared to fin clipping.

Boris Johnson's unwillingness or inability to do the right thing has left the Government looking untrustworthy and unprincipled. Worst of all he's undermined the public health advice that keeps us all safe, just to keep one aide in his job. Our nation’s health must come first.
