We also found that certain areas are more prone to certain trajectories of population decline. ▶️Rural areas, especially small in size, have experienced an acceleration of population loss. ▶️Urban areas tend to be oriented towards decelerating population decline. 5/5

We explored the spatial distribution of these trajectories, observing critical differences across European sub-regions: ▶️ East - persistent and rapid ▶️ Central - persistent but moderate ▶️ South - accelerating ▶️ North & West - decelerating 4/5
