@NYC_DOT

THE RESULTS ARE IN: First year of 24/7 speed cameras leads to declines in speeding, injuries, and fatalities during expanded hours:
⬇️ Speeding down average of 30%
⬇️ Fatalities down 25%
Let me rewrite your headline for people since this one was apparently written for cars, which are unable to read

...in session. Until recently. the NY cameras in school zones clocked on at 7. No longer. We are protecting non-extant school children at 2 o 3 or 5 am. Well, Im just a farm boy from Baltimore, but I know bullshit when I see it.
Dooring happens even when cyclists are following the law. All road users must obey the law, but motorists in 4,000 pound vehicles are far more likely to harm a cyclist than the other way around. It’s not even close. Let’s all do our part.
.
@NYC_DOT
@ydanis
@nyctaxi
How about a PSA telling bicyclists to honor traffic signs, lights, and regulations so that law-abiding pedestrians and passengers don’t have to “ twist?!”
Disgusting. Speed cameras save lives. Speeding dropped 30% and fatalities 25% after cameras went 24/7.
@nyc_dot
’s goal is $0 in speed camera revenue by eliminating speeding. Playing politics with SPEEDING is shameful and insults everyone who has lost someone to traffic violence
The damaged sidewalk has been secured by
@NYC_DOT
. The property owner is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the sidewalk and was issued a second violation today after failing to make the repair after the first violation. Thank you,
@Casey
for raising this concern
I’m damn proud that
@NYC_DOT
has a working class immigrant commissioner. Yes, he is proudly a former taxi driver, teacher, and food service worker in the very building that is now DOT HQ. That’s a hell of a testament to his grit and perseverance. Enjoy spewing ugliness, though.
Nobody likes trucks double parking and blocking bike/bus lanes.

Confronting the climate crisis means getting out of our cars and prioritizing greener transportation. Announced today, this year’s
@NYC_DOT
Car Free Earth Day is about raising awareness and reclaiming our streets for people.
✅ Average pothole repair time down from 3.16 days to 2.57 days
✅ DOT repaired 35,707 potholes in first 4 months of FY24, up 4%
✅ At same time, DOT installed 187 speed humps, up 53%
✅ Our social media is 🔥🔥🔥 and reaching more NYers
Get you an agency that can do both!
Instead of focusing on filling potholes and installing speed bumps in a timely manner, the DOT prefers to tweet nonsense that New Yorkers couldn't care less about.
The Department of Transportation Alternatives needs a major change in leadership.
I highly recommend
@KillChaindoc
to anyone who wants to understand the cyber security threats to our democracy. It’s chilling and sobering. We have a lot of work to do and should move swiftly to auditable paper ballots.
Oh, and
@BrianKempGA
’s election was definitely a fraud.
Today
@NYC_DOT
Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez is in Albany pushing for renewal and expansion of the city’s red light camera program. Red light cameras save lives, but they are only permitted at less than 1% of the city’s signaled intersections.
A Car-Free Earth Day confession that I’m proud of: I rode a bike on a city street for the first time. I’m officially a

Do better
@nytimes
@SarahMaslinNir
. Airing the gripes of luxury car drivers in search of free private vehicle storage while overlooking the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, bus riders, small biz, sanitation, affordable housing, and ending traffic violence is pretty rich.
Wait, why aren’t we talking about this?!
According to the special counsel, Cohen received a text from Russian businessman Giorgi Rtskhiladze in October 2016: "Stopped flow of tapes from Russia but not sure if there's anything else. Just so you know..."
“DOT spokesman Nick Benson quipped that he’s “notoriously bad at lip reading, but I think it’s a safe assumption that Travis Kelce was vociferously expressing his support for outdoor dining in New York City.”
In one respect the Mueller Report represents a triumph of good journalism. Much of what was ultimately documented by Mueller’s investigators was previously reported in the press. The press sought the facts and found the facts with impressive accuracy.
Moved to NYC 10 years ago today with nothing but what fit in my Ford Focus. Got my master’s the day before, started managing a campaign the next day. I had a couple thousand bucks in left over student loan money in my pocket and no plan beyond November. Best decision I ever made.
A colleague was out to dinner wearing a
@NYC_DOT
jacket when a random person approached to say how much they love DOT’s social media. What a high compliment to our team!
Check us out on IG too: nyc_dot (Help us hit that 70k mark - we were at 48k just a few months ago!)
The
@NYC_DOT
East Gun Hill Road project will make 3.1 miles of the street safer and speed up bus service for 40,000 daily riders. It’s also a product of our focus on equity, serving communities that have been overlooked for far too long.
NY Daily News: Speed cameras work: A year on, NYC shows how to slow traffic and save lives
"Rarely does one see a clearer cause-and-effect correlation between public policy and human behavior... speeding violations in [camera] zones have plummeted 30%."
We are making Broadway Vision a reality, creating new public spaces and safer streets from Madison Square to Herald Square. Work
@NYC_DOT
completed this week adds 2 new plazas, shared streets, and two-way bike connections from W. 25th to W. 32nd. That's reimagining public space!
Today
@NYCMayor
announced that
@NYC_DOT
is doubling the size of Summer Streets and expanding to all 5 boroughs. 20 miles of streets will go car-free on select days so New Yorkers can enjoy recreation and programming for the arts, wellness, and more
What a new year’s glow up! For the first time in its nearly 141 year history, the Brooklyn Bridge is permanently lit by
@NYC_DOT
for all New Yorkers and visitors to enjoy!
I will never be able to fill the void left by my Dad’s passing, but I am grateful that I have 39 years of happy memories that will keep my heart full. I will always love you, Dad.
If so blessed, call your parents and tell them you love them.
I guess you can’t really warm up in the City Hall bullpen, so
@CoreyinNYC
took it outside. Good luck with the first pitch, Mr. Speaker! No matter what you can’t do worse than the former mayor of Cincinnati —>
I don’t share
@hughhewitt

2. Miami University mug
3. Ohio flag
4. Ohio plaque

6. Buckeye sign
7. Bob Fellar autographed baseball

Today marks one year at
@NYC_DOT
and the first time I shed tears at a presser.
It was devastating to hear families talk about loved ones lost to traffic violence and steeled my resolve to keep fighting to end it.
Traffic deaths are preventable. All of them.
Red light running is down 74% at intersections with red light cameras, but state law permits them at just 1% of intersections.
Today we joined families of victims of red light running to urge state lawmakers to renew and expand the expiring law authorizing these cameras.
The rainbow crosswalk near The Stonewall Inn returns!
@NYC_DOT
Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez is on-site with the crew. Big thanks to

Summer Streets is back and better than ever, this year with extended hours! Make sure you take advantage of recreation and fun in our collective front yards - our streets.
Summer Streets is coming back this summer!
Enjoy car-free space for walking, running, biking and more with new extended hours (7AM-3PM).

Details:
The majority of New Yorkers don’t own cars, yet the curb is overwhelmingly dedicated to free car storage. Allocating a tiny fraction of space to meet other public needs is reasonable and isn’t the cause of the not-at-all-new challenge of finding free parking in 🇺🇸’s biggest city
For six decades we’ve made it harder and harder to build housing in NYC. It’s time to cut red tape and build a little more housing in every neighborhood.
New today:
@NYC_DOT
street activity sensor pilot program will help us understand how streets are being used, where near-misses occur, and how we can help prevent tragedies from happening.
One traffic fatality is too many, & we are exploring innovative ways to use technology to prevent the next tragedy from happening. New street activity sensors will detect how streets are used by pedestrians, cyclists, & vehicles to inform street redesigns.
These shoes are an absurd and somewhat vain waste of money, but at heart I’m still the working class kid who badly wanted them in 5th grade. The only kid in my Appalachian town who had them was a doctor’s son. It’s silly, but 10 yo me was scrappy enough to finally get them
Late to the game on this, but 18 year old Nick met former Cincinnati Mayor Jerry Springer at a local Democratic Party event in 2003. Was a bit surreal, but he was a very nice guy. Apparently ties were thicc and the knots were thin in those days.
I don’t enjoy remote work, but I’m paying homage to my dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa with today’s attire. Proud to be the son, grandson, and great-grandson of firefighters with IAFF Local 442. They ran into burning buildings so I could be the first in my family to go to college
Delete your own, mooks. You want to send me a straight speeding ticket, I pay without comment. You send me one invoking a school-zone violation, I am going to rightly note the fact that no school is operant on the date and time. In my city, we employ that statute judiciously.
Today my $86,000 in student loans were forgiven under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. This happened thanks to
@SpeakerPelosi
,
@askgeorge
, Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, and the people who elected Democratic majorities in 2006. Elections matter.

Vision Zero works and
@NYC_DOT
’s projects have saved lives. The facts:
✅ Pedestrian fatalities ⬇️ over 17% compared to this point last year
✅ Ped fatalities ⬇️ nearly 30% since this point in 2021
✅ Ped fatalities nearly cut in half since this point in 2013, pre-Vision Zero
Pedestrian fatalities are near an all-time low in NYC so far this year, second only to 2020. This bucks an alarming national trend in the other direction. Read Commissioner Rodriguez’s op-ed in today’s

Meet the cutest addition to our bike lane maintenance crew! We are testing our first electric, pedal-assist cargo bike and we want you to help name it. Dottie? Mini Mike the Cargo Bike? Uncle Bruck? Reply with your ideas and we'll hold a vote on finalists.
Cycling infrastructure is not just about today, it’s about our transportation future. As we tragically learned during the 20th century with superhighways ripping through cities, if you build it they will come.
Bikes are not a niche form of transportation! As we celebrate
#BikeMonth

#Manhattan
, there were 750

lane users in one hour vs. 1,100 motor vehicles. Let's make this the summer of cycling.
So proud of
@RichCordray
for winning the Democratic nomination for governor of OH. It was the greatest honor of my career to work for Rich when he was AG & treasurer. He is the kindest, most thoughtful, and hardest working person I've met in politics. Will be an outstanding gov!
Can’t tell you how proud I am of all the incredible
@NYC_DOT
employees who made the Brooklyn Bridge restoration (and daily maintenance) happen. I’ve always been in awe of its breathtaking beauty and the new lights unveiled tonight will make it shine bright for decades to come!
Literally in the article:
“The DOT defended its work on Broadway, noting that the agency had redesigned nine…intersections on the street…”
Even tabloid-esque blogs shouldn’t use a horrific tragedy to mislead New Yorkers about
@NYC_DOT
employees’ commitment to safety
A bike rider was killed this morning on Broadway — a roadway whose danger is well known to DOT. The agency named it a Vision Zero Priority Corridor in 2015 — then did all of nothing to change that.
Two larger pedal-assist cargo bikes can replace a box truck, making streets safer and our environment greener. That’s why

I grew up in a small town in Appalachia where most of us were working class if we were lucky or downright poor. I’ll let you in on a little secret: the people there work a lot harder than many of the people I know in NYC who earn six figures.
