Been using LLMs for a bit now,.- Prose is not bad but gives you a decent foundation.- Python, Rust code is great on Claude, meh on GPT. - I use projects to compartmentalize work but the chats lose context and it’s hard to regain sometimes. It has been a productivity bump though.

it’s interesting, working with LLMs. for code: unlocks a bunch of stuff for me on the front end (js, react etc) that i otherwise couldn’t do (w/o lots of practice). for writing: largely terrible / slop, seems very hard to coerce good results. gonna try to keep tuning setup tho.

Djokovic should retire. He’s won all that you need in the sport. No one is going to think less of him. He can’t compete against the top 2 and that will hinder his ability to win any title.

A management layer over the Iceberg Rest Catalog. This looks like fun for a team to adopt and have search and discovery.

Can someone explain to me why Meta can't build stuff at home? I figured they'd have researchers and PhDs to get to what they want. This acquiring spree is on top of the Scale acquisition. Is this just throwing money at the problem?

Americans need to travel outside of their country more often because this is basic breakfast in every other developed country.

Ducklake is essentially reinventing the Hive Metastore, doing it better thus trying to reinvent Iceberg. And they are solving the clunkiness of a catalog by making another one. Also, I don’t see vendors supporting it. Not sure where this is headed in the long run.

I wonder what happens to the other Postgres startups after the Neon acquisition. If Snowflake and Databricks both have OLTP offerings, what would entice an org to purchase an external vendor? .I know they are still baking these offerings in, but long, those would stick.

Data people are back here on X or still hobbling around Bluesky and Threads? X is still more active despite the rage quitting last year.

Any data catalog that gets as much adoption as the Hive Metastore did back in the day, is going to win. From the looks of it, Unity Catalog is going to be that in the long term. Learning a bit more about it this week, will share.

Now that #dataaisummit and #snowflakesummit are concluded, the first thing you should do is start unsubscribing to marketing emails that you would be getting because you scanned your badge for a pair of socks.

Iceberg Managed Tables announced by Databricks sounds like a better S3 tables. And the vast ecosystem connections is great to see. Unity catalog is going to surpass Glue catalog at this rate. #DataAISummit
