We were lucky to have @ndhapple talk rail electrification yesterday at @nyuniversity. Those lucky enough to attend also received physical copies of the excellent report that should serve as a blueprint for building passenger rail ridership in the US:

Tomorrow!
The very kind folks at High Speed Rail Alliance are hosting a virtual talk for Momentum next week, May 9! I've been instructed to bully you all into coming (albeit, once again, virtually) -- https://t.co/qRo7MtQSb3 Other site saw it first.

Critics say! @samsklar offers both thoughts and notes for Momentum, plus there’s a Q&A about the process that led to it. (Getting a review might be the most surreal part of this yet!) —

NEWSDAY EDITORIAL: Electrify those diesel lines, LIRR; the recent NYU-Marron study is a blueprint for how to get it done. "For a region where public transit is an economic life line, that's the spark Long Island needs." --
newsday.com
The $13 billion blueprint includes related costs like double-tracking and grade-crossing eliminations and suggests dividing the work into manageable segments.

In yesterday's Point, we took a look at a new study from @ndhapple through NYU that analyzes the potential costs and benefits of electrifying the rest of the @LIRR . Fascinating analysis and work.

The NYU study examines every LIRR line that's not currently fully electrified.

Reupping for the AM =>
Brand new bullet trains aren't the only way to provide faster passenger rail service. Upgrades to existing tracks “can deliver a whole lot of what high-speed rail promises using the infrastructure we already have," @ndhapple finds in a new report.
