"AI isn't replacing radiologists" good article Expectation: rapid progress in image recognition AI will delete radiology jobs (e.g. as famously predicted by Geoff Hinton now almost a decade ago). Reality: radiology is doing great and is growing. There are a lot of imo naive
In 2016 Geoffrey Hinton said “we should stop training radiologists now" since AI would soon be better at their jobs. He was right: models have outperformed radiologists on benchmarks for ~a decade. Yet radiology jobs are at record highs, with an average salary of $520k. Why?

An ‘ultracrepidarian’ (19th century) is one who loves to give their opinion, at length, on matters they know nothing about.

#Opinion Bring back 'SkyDome'? It's time for Toronto to reject the bland, corporate naming of its buildings

A very pleasant selection of famous and lesser known Boris Spremo photographs via the tpl's digital archives
👶 Here’s a baby pic of Toronto Reference Library. Legendary photojournalist Boris Spremo took it in 1976. Born in Yugoslavia, he was the first photojournalist to receive the Order of Canada. Below are 20 of his construction shots from our archive of @thestar photos. 🧵 1/21

To the Google PM and devs who added search in Add to Album in Google Photos, thank you!! I've waited years for that tiny piece of (seemingly obvious) functionality.

The push to change Toronto's street names has often come from citizen action and the challenges posed by the city's growth and annexed territory. Join me for a free talk: - August 7 at 7pm - Beeton Hall, Toronto Reference Library (main floor), 789 Yonge St.

What are some great, affordable design moves that Toronto developers could do without having to ask permission? The kinds of things that regular people love and might become local traditions, if repeated across lots of buildings. Here’s a starter list. What else would you add?

I know it's an odd station (being the only underground streetcar station that's not connected to a subway station) but it has a unique charm to it and I just love the blue tiles that are reflective of the nearby harborfront. #ttc #takethettc #transittoronto #toronto #streetcar

on a related note, we can basically just 3d print oil paintings now? with texture accuracy down to 4μm? it's pretty neat.
i asked my dad, longtime full-time professional oil painter, if he was worried about ai art and he said that was the stupidest thing he'd ever heard because the ai isn't making physical oil paintings & has nothing to do with him. fair points

Seriously though, the Sesame demo is great. I've enjoyed the multiple conversations I've had with Maya. Interestingly, I don't like speaking with Miles.
