If there's one thing reining in Trump and Rubio in Latin America, it's their fear of being responsible for a migrant crisis. You can try to close every door in Central America, but you can't change the fact that Cuba is 90 miles away.
"Several sources tell The Economist that the United States is considering sending small quantities of fuel to the island: gas for cooking and diesel to keep water infrastructure running" "Rubio could easily end up as the public face of an induced humanitarian crisis"

The Economist understands that American officials are considering sending fuel to the island to stave off a humanitarian crisis

Nikki Haley can say these conditions would "bring freedom to the Iranian people" because Iran won't agree to any of them and they'd have to be extracted via regime change
To end the Iranian regime’s aggression and bring freedom to the Iranian people, these conditions must be met: No more nuclear enrichment No more ballistic missile or drone activity No more funding for Iranian terror proxies

Sec Rubio already has committed war crimes & crimes against humanity as secretary of state, if it’s true that Rubio lied to President trump about talks with Cuba, as Cuba had denied official talks are taking place as US blocks all fuel, he needs to be immediately impeached/jailed
Trump is hardly a dove, but he does genuinely love a deal. Cuba could offer him a cut of tourism and other benefits to the US economy and security - which is why Rubio has to lie to Trump about diplomacy (thanks @nkulw)

In a sense Venezuela was the test run for the Latin American regime change Holy Grail in Cuba. Marco Rubio is playing the long game. Great analysis from Nathan Thompson. https://t.co/vY9hHoIQmu

@nkulw Now more than ever, Democrats need to get back to their baseline opposition to the blockade. Don't get your wires crossed like you did when elected Dems were giving speeches supporting Venezuela war powers but also regime change.

@nkulw The suffering that the blockade and Rubio's escalation are imposing on Cubans could create problems that Trump doesn't want to deal with. Hopefully that gets through to Trump, because Cubans are suffering quite badly.

Trump's Venezuela attack seemed like a dream come true for Rubio and the Florida wing of the party, until Trump decided to cast aside Machado and work with Delcy. As much as it seems like Florida has captured our foreign policy, there's weakness there

The main thrust of Marco Rubio's career is regime change in Cuba. Trump, in 2015, said "50 years [of embargo] is enough". Can Rubio convince him to tighten the noose all the way? I wrote about it in @TheProspect
Trump, while certainly no anti-interventionist, has also shown disinterest in both the subtle, sustained regime change operations and the large-scale, blowback-prone wars born out of the neoconservative movement. https://t.co/DlC1hHrmBl

Another interpretation is that the US is ceding control in Cuba to China by disengaging, leaving the island with no other options. Striking a deal with Cuba that lets US companies help revive the country's energy industry gives us more leverage to achieve the change the US seeks.
Cuba is desperate with fewer friends to turn to and China will seize any opportunity to turn that desperation into control. President Trump's efforts to protect U.S. interests in our hemisphere is important now more than ever.

There is absolutely no question that the US's current policy towards Cuba, if unchecked, will create an unprecedented migratory crisis. Rubio is about to make the Trump administration responsible for the biggest inbound exodus of migrants in contemporary US history.
Trump's policy towards Cuba "could spark a still greater migration wave and a humanitarian crisis on Florida’s doorstep" I don't recall MAGA voters wanting Trump to cause a refugee crisis with a regime change effort...

Proud to have worked on this letter with other progressives who don't want a stupid, illegal war with Iran. Congressional Democrats need to listen to the American people and get on message.

I've never fully understood who the weapons contractor ads on the DC metro are for. Surely the officials making the calls on which brand of missiles to triple tap a Middle Eastern wedding with just take private cars everywhere.

The PROTECT Taiwan Act is the same type of bill we entertained before the war in Ukraine escalated. The intent is to draw the U.S. into a committal position in another foreign conflict. There are only two U.S. states beginning with a ‘T’; neither are Taiwan. I voted no.

The "rules-based international order" registers near-unanimous opposition to the US blockade on Cuba every year. This never stopped any US president before.
