Very grateful to the customer service rep at @widex in NY who helped locate and redirect a mis-delivered package we shipped to a collaborator in a completely different state. Saved us probably two weeks of work to redo the synthesis of a bespoke phosphine ligand.

Here's part two of our investigations into bicyclo[1.1.1]pentylphosphine chemistry. Our goal this time was an entry into Bcp₂PX chemistry that didn't require PH₃. https://t.co/2Fw39j2ZNa

Truthfully we have wanted to make this phosphine for years, inspired by @brad_carrow's tris(adamantyl)phosphine.

We’re thrilled to share this story about tris(bicyclo[1.1.1]pentyl)phosphine. Griffin Perry developed a scalable route to this phosphine and discovered impressive activity in Pd-catalyzed sp3-electrophile cross-coupling. https://t.co/wVCyrofcdx

Is this the oldest bottle of Apiezon L grease you've ever seen? The cap is crimped on and not a screw cap. The address on the back is the current site of the Philly convention center. @Apiezonvacuum

I’m not sure whether I should admit this but one of the things I’m most looking forward to about the upcoming Organometallic Chemistry @GordonConf is the soft serve machine in Miley dining hall. 🍦

Here's your annual reminder that freezer relays are cheap and blow up all the time. Keep spares in your lab! This one went out today in spectacular fashion.

Do you have a Vacuum atmospheres glovebox with a Tecumseh compressor-powered freezer? Buy this $20 part (K71-37 Relay kit) and keep one on hand. Both of our 2015-era freezers have smoked one in the last two years.

Experience with less-common pumps: Precision D25: total pleasure to rebuild. Pfeiffer duo 2.5: shaft seals start puking oil after ~ 1 year of operation. The worst of our pumps by far, but oh-so conveniently sized for having in a hood.

I feel like my lab is constantly replacing shaft and cartridge seals on our Edwards pumps to try to keep the pump oil inside these things. Does anyone have anecdotes of the relative real-world maintenance requirements of Welch vs Edwards-style pumps?

Symptoms: Fan turns on but compressor won't start. Usually accompanied by a faint "burning electronics" smell. Remove case, loosen set screw holding the cover on, and swap the part. Make sure it is unplugged.
