It’s genuinely wild to see people protesting 15 minute cities, AKA building places so most needs can be met within a 15 walk or bike ride, when that’s how cities around the world were built for thousands of years before the invention of cars

This is what a walkable, sustainable, and productive place looks like. To build this in America, we need to ban minimum lot size mandates, parking mandates, and density restrictions, then legalize and incentivize the development of mixed-use, multifamily housing for everyone

Car-dependency is the status quo so most people don’t realize that cars and car-centric infrastructure are not only subsidized, but prioritized at the expense of other forms of transportation. 15 minute cities support those other forms, so owning a car isn’t *necessary* to live.

Prior to WWII, all US big cities and small towns alike were built to be walkable because that was the main method of transportation. Starting in the 20’s, policies lobbied by the auto industry changed that. Our lack of walkability has nothing to do with how “huge” the country is!
