It's official! 21 years after the establishment of the Moriarty Tribunal and 7.5 years after the final Moriarty report, the Irish govt is hanging by a 57-56 thread, Michael Lowry. Remember what Micheal Martin said about the Moriarty report in 2011? https://t.co/0nNDnnQiak

Really looking forward to this at 9pm tonight, esp the first Garda on the scene. Well worth reading this background to one of Ireland's most high profile unsolved killings. https://t.co/IuKmvzAZDf

THE biggest cover-up in the history of the State. That is how the brutal murder of Fr Niall Molloy in 1985 was described in the Seanad last week. Those words, of Roscommon Labour senator John Kelly…

Tea time on the day the president of the ECB tells us we [in Ireland] are paying more interest on our loans than the rest of the EU because of the "quasi-monopolistic" nature of our banking sector. In other words, it's because they're a cartel. Nowhere in RTE's headlines.

Draghi tells @paulmurphy_TD the ECB doesn't remove govts, the people do, that's democracy. Bet the people will be motivated to remove a govt pretty damned quick if the ECB withholds liquidity. Draghi denies there's a link when it's obvious there is.

Wow! Draghi says there is no net interest cost for the Anglo bonds whilst they're held by the Irish central bank. That being the case, why is the Irish central bank accelerating, compared with the 2013 schedule, the disposal of the bonds to the market (where there is a net cost)?

Pearse Doherty is first politician to confront Draghi (who says he was prepared for this!) about the Anglo bailout. Draghi response is, to paraphrase, "look at how well you're doing now, and the ECB should be given some credit for that"

Draghi doesn't give the stock excuse by Irish banks that loan interest rates are so high because repossessing property is so difficult. If we have a quasi-monopolistic market and they're behaving uncompetitively (cartel-like), why isn't anyone making competition complaints.

The answer to "why are Irish interest rates so high" is, according to Draghi, we have a quasi-monopolistic banking market in Ireland. Meanwhile, Irish central bank wants to edge credit unions out, so the market will become more monopolistic.

Alas, finance committee chairman's opening remarks suggest this "exchange of views" will be about current and future challenges. Do they think it's impolite to remind ECB of demands on Ireland in 2009-2013. "Bombs going off in Dublin", paying unsecured unguaranteed bondholders.

When our old media next reports wee Paddy McGinty's been awarded €10m for some undetailed cock-up by some unnamed medical personnel (wouldn't you want to know if they were treating you or your loved ones?), remember, the likelihood is, you're paying for it (+ legal costs).

PAC hears that there are 113 outstanding cases against the State Claims Agency for medical negligence, including 73 relating to the CervicalCheck controversy. The overall possible bill for those 113 cases, to the taxpayer, is roughly €1.4bn. @VirginMediaNews

Hey @GRobinsonDUP , are you still on the board of the Eastside Partnership CLG (parent company of Landmark East property development co). You're still listed as a member on the company's website, though there's no entry to that effect in your Commons register of interests.

Landmark East is a property development company and is one of the most fascinating recipients of SIF funding; it is the subject of one case study in the audit report today. Is Robin Newton still on the board or is he a trustee, there's some confusion.

Strewth! Just look at what Australia's banking commission is uncovering in blue-chip banks forgery, fraud, sharing customer data, bogus accounts & much more. It's mostly driven by greed, but other human frailties are on show also. https://t.co/IZdqGwk6ZS (h/t @FarndonDavid )
