This article promoted by @ascd about how teachers are not helping girls enough is beyond disappointing. Where is the concern about lagging reading scores for boys? Or the fact that 70% of D's and F's are boys? Or pehaps their plummeting college admission rates? They should.

Teaching Boys: Agree or Disagree?.1. Boys learn better in cool classrooms with bright light. 2. Boys are reluctant to ask for help. 3. When boys win a game, their testosterone increases. 4. Boys learn better in organized classes. 5. Boys just can't sit still. (All Agree!).

Imagine dropping girls off at a school with 90% male teachers. And yet, that's the expectation for elementary boys - to only have female teachers. Research tells us boys perform better in academics & behavior with men, especially in ELA, a lag area. Come on, men! Be teachers!!!.

Couple more pics of TIP charts for @riyundafr .It takes 6 exposures over time to grasp one new academic vocab word. I begin the journey by adding the word to the TIP and celebrating that one word. When another critical word emerges, let's add that to our TIP!

Got a ? from @riyundafr about TIP charts. My development of TIP's aligns with vocab research: visuals are very effective. And concise, understandable definitions help students more than long dictionary definitions. It's best to build as you go - just when Ss need them.
