In 2019, I decided to apply for admission into The Gambia Law School. It was one of the most difficult moments of my life. Juggling a full time job, being a single parent at the time (hubby was away) & going to Law school was a challenge that seemed impossible but I did it y’all.
Is
@BarrowPresident
and his government going to wait until this happens before they act? It is a shame that you have taken no actions against a person who continues to blatantly disregard the law. Do better! Do right by Gambian women and girls!

I pray to remain grounded & continue to fight for the cause of women & girls in this country & beyond. May I never lose sight of what is & has always been important, being service oriented. Many thanks to UNDP & the entire team at Daily Trust for finding me worthy of this award.

For Imam Fatty to say during his interview with Kerr Fatou that FGM is happening in private because of the 'foolish law' that has been imposed on people, and still sit in the comfort of his home without being arrested is disheartening. Barrow and his government are complicit!

Hello. I wasn’t going to be here in a while due to pressure from my exams but I have some exciting news I just had to share with you. About a year and a half ago, Satang recommended me for an opportunity that was meant to have me as a footnote. 1/1

The obsession with women's genitalia by men who have not undergone FGM, yet aggressively vocalize their opinions about it, is truly overwhelming! Amidst all the issues that could be brought before the National Assembly, they prioritize repealing a law that protects women & girls.
Hello. I am trying to raise funds for 3 of my brilliant colleagues who are unable to access their results due to arrears owed to the Law Sch. The Sch was kind enough to allow them sit to the exams but they have to clear what they owe the sch before their results would be released
So incredibly proud of this moment and all of your accomplishments! There isn’t a more suited keynote speaker! I love how you adopted an intersectional approach to forging a republican future! Your intellectual prowess is truly a gift to The Gambia! Love and admiration always 💚

We must never relent in our efforts to end FGM. FGM constitutes a grave violation of human rights, and the state bears a solemn duty to protect, fulfill, and promote the rights of women, ensuring they do not endure this harmful practice.
So I was going through my photos last night and I came across this. Was receiving my first award in recognition of my role in advancing children’s rights. This was some 15 years ago. Oh how far I have come. Marriage came shortly after this. Some days I ask myself how I made it.
Over the last couple of days, I have been teaching on

Not even the heat could keep us away. Gambisara, here we come. Community sensitization on FGM, child marriage and teenage pregnancy using positive deviants approaches.

It is important to remember that FGM affects us all differently. Your lack of complications as a result of FGM should not serve as a basis to invalidate the experiences of others. Let us cease gaslighting and dismissing the experiences of those who continue to be affected by FGM.

Dear Supreme Islamic Council,
Despite all the crises plaguing our nation, including an emerging drug problem claiming the lives of young people and escalating security threats to lives and properties, you want to prioritize the repeal of a law protecting women and girls from FGM.

My son Shaykh is so disrespectful. He is out here dissing my sense of style. He said ‘Yaboye, bayil d sol mbuba you reye yee. Yow neykulo Merr.’ Meaning ‘Mother, stop wearing big clothes. You are not an old woman.’ But this child! He is truly hating on my abayas.
I just listened to an audio note on WhatsApp where a religious scholar prayed for harm to those planning to travel to the National Assembly on Monday to oppose repealing the law against FGM. How can someone wish death upon others?

No word from them regarding what is currently happening! No arrests have been made when the Women’s Amendment Act 2015 clearly stipulates that promoting and inciting FGM is an offence! This defeats the intent and purpose of the law! When will our government be serious?
