It's 23 days until December 1 and you might need every one of them if you decide to take part in my music challenge for Christmas! This is the #AdventChallenge2025 and as usual with my challenges that aren't year based I am using prompts that will require research and thinking

#My2025Almanac November 13 is World Kindness Day - good luck with that! The fact that we need reminding shows how alien kindness is to our natures. We need to be taught kindness but the opposite comes naturally. Enough of my rant (!), here's Glen Campbell

#My2025Almanac November 12. American singer Jo Stafford was born on this day in 1917. Don't recognise the name? Hardly surprising as her main success came in the 1950s with songs that have become obscure. One song that has stood the test of time though

#Allthefives 1985 Track 2 and this is something of a forgotten classic from Dee C Lee. It was, amazingly, her only Top 10 hit as a solo artist, but she was a backing singer for Wham! and a featured singer for The Style Council where she had great success.

Who is the most famous or infamous person you have ever met? There was a time when I was an avid autograph hunter. I was pretty successful at it as well, collecting about 200 over the years, mostly…

#My2025Almanac November 11 It is, of course, #RemembranceDay when, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the guns finally fell silent at the end of the First World War. Today we will once again fall silent. Here is Nimrod by Elgar

#Allthefives 1985 Track 1 and I start with an absolute banger of a tune that still sounds brilliant today. A Top 3 hit for Ashford and Simpson in February 1985, here's the fantastic Solid.

I noticed a typo in my calendar above. Days 19 & 20 were exactly the same 🤦 The correct version is below and I will reshare it much nearer the beginning of December. There's a decent amount of interest already so I am really looking forward to it. #AdventChallenge2025

#My2025Almanac Greg Lake was born on November 10 1947. Famous for his work with the amazing Emerson Lake and Palmer his most enduring song is of course I Believe in Father Christmas. It's close enough (!!) so here is that seasonal classic

#Allthefives Track 5 of 1975. Always the most difficult of any of the years because you have to leave so many out. So, here is the summer hit of 1975 from Typically Tropical, the ridiculous and ridiculously catchy Barbados. As a 10 year old I loved it

#My2025Almanac On November 9 1984, Australian singer/songwriter and actress Delta Goodrem was born. Her first album Innocent Eyes was a great debut with some gorgeous songs including the title track and perhaps my favourite track A Year Ago Today

#Allthefives Track 4 of 1975 is a song by Van McCoy and the Soul City Symphony. One of the earliest disco tracks to really make an impression in the UK, The Hustle is based on a dance performed by patrons in the Adam's Apple nightclub in New York

#Allthefives Track 3 of 1975 is a song that I was obsessed by as a kid. After choosing it in another challenge I bought a copy and those memories came absolutely flooding back! Here's Guys and Dolls with There's a Whole Lot of Loving, a forgotten classic

#My2025Almanac November 7 in 1879 saw the birth of Leon Trotsky famously namechecked in No More Heroes by The Stranglers. It's also October Revolution Day which he did so much to bring about. I loved studying early 20th Century Russian history at school.
