good morning from the microagression olympics!
i won’t shut up about these anti-trans bills for a number of reasons, but primarily, right now, because these sports bills all started to attack black women in sport. if we don’t talk about this we are losing the plot.
The violence we are seeing today did not start last summer. It started in 1619. It picked up its pace in 1863. Stop with the: “Did last summer teach us anything?” headlines.
How is being “outside” making me sadder than spending weeks at a time hiding out in my apartment? What is the brain science behind this existential dread?
i will never forgive jay-z for kicking off his verse during homecoming so out of breathe. beyonce had been dacing for nearly 23 minutes straight. you were drinking juice backstage.
The world is demanding that Black people, Black queer and trans people, Black disabled people be less beautiful. And I, for one, refuse the assignment.
BREAKING: Arkansas’s trans health ban has been BLOCKED by the court. We won’t rest until this cruel and unconstitutional law has been struck down for good.

Sustainable fashion isn’t just a singular garment but a lifestyle. Anyone who said Bernie didn’t make a statement wasn’t paying attention. This is a hill I will die on.

from this emmys moment; to the courts; to seeing you being the most amazing dad; you are my person and I am yours.
The trans sports bills are *not* about fairness is women’s sports. They are about inviting increasing body scrutiny into sports. They are about white supremacist notions of womanhood being the law of the land.

I will never forget when my art history advisor told me that if I wanted to be in a classroom with other people of color that I shouldn’t be studying art history. Now I’m leveling the playing field for an entire generation of POC art historians. SUCK MY DICK FROM THE BACK.
On top of being the mother and driving force behind Beyoncé and Solange, Tina Knowles Lawson has collected a stunning array of contemporary black art. She spoke with
@museummammy
about her art and life for VF’s September issue:
If there was ever a time to show up for trans folks - it is now. AL is one of several states pushing legislation to make transness illegal. We are seeing state govts that are more invested in criminalizing health care than the well-being of their citizens.

As people in the U.S. struggle to get tested for COVID-19,
@iamcardib
called out the inequality in testing.
Some celebrities have been able to access test kits even when they're not showing any symptoms.
Compassion fatigue is real, but showing up for family is so deeply embedded in being human. We are all holding a whole lot. The only answer is tenderness.
I would love for production companies to stop hiring cis gay men with a history of violence against trans folks to do media projects centered on trans talent.
now is a good time to share that i'll be leaving the met soon. much more to say, but working on this video was one of my great joys during my tenure here.
A few facts:
+ A lot of non-black people study African Art.
+ 84% of curatorial positions are held by white people.*
*This is the actual problem. It is important to acknowledge that not all curators of color (or otherwise) study artists of their own race or nationality.
Been thinking a lot about how these algorithms are designed to repress us and enforce shame on our bodies and today and everyday I say fuck that just a little bit louder.
please stop asking questions about overcoming "the whiteness of the art world." i am interested in promoting black, queer, disabled, and/or otherwise marginalized artists... it's not a struggle, it's an honor to share the work of these artists. whiteness isn't my center.
Police shot and killed a man in Brooklyn after they responded to 911 calls about a man pointing a gun at people and saw a man with an object in his hand, the police said
quite literally, in Connecticut, most of these trans sports bills started because three white, wealthy young women hated two black women SO VEHEMENTLY that they stared a movement.
now, nearly half of the country is putting forth anti trans bills.
