One nice thing about my department is that my colleagues are not my competitors. It's the opposite of zero sum. Is that true for your department? company?

@mufan_li @roydanroy All I can say is that I personally am very happy to criticize my employer publicly. I voted with my feet - if I thought academia were a better environment, I'd work there.

@pfau @mufan_li Yeah, but sounds like your experience was sort of unusual, even if not unprecedented. I think they have relative advantages, and I assume you would agree. For many types of ML/DL research, hard to beat resources available in industry, nevermind strong colleagues.
