How it started vs how it’s going — stream ecology #fieldwork edition! Today I sampled the bugs of East Turkey Creek for the 20th year in a row. Both the creek and I look rougher than we did in 2003, but we’re still alive! #ilovemyjob

The amount of precip was enough to climb ahead of former driest start to season on record in some (but not all) parts of SoCal. But overall, this remains an exceptionally dry winter; without more rain, fire risk could reemerge in 10-14 days if SA winds return. [3/3] #CAwx #CAfire

The military did not enter California. The federal government restarted federal water pumps after they were offline for maintenance for three days. State water supplies in Southern California remain plentiful.

Crowdsourced request: does anyone have a good source for (near) *real-time* maps of precipitation in the United States relative to estimated recurrence intervals? I've seen these maps circulate during certain events but don't know if there is a public source. Thanks!!
