The furlough scheme being refused to Scotland and Wales when needed but extended in a day when England decides to go into lockdown is the perfect illustrations of how the ‘United Kingdom’ actually works.
Impossible to thank everyone who has been in touch today, it’s been incredible the variety of people who’ve been in contact, but I appreciate every word of support and encouragement. I’ll keep saying it as I see it 1/2
Ange Postecoglou the most important acquisition for Celtic, real leader with great ideas & clearly an eye for a player. Hatate & O’Reilly were outstanding in the middle of park. Juranovic had Kent in his pocket too. Momentum now truly with Celtic, cup winners & top of the table.
Michael Gove “Scotland has two governments”
Aye that’s right Michael one that we vote for and another who imposes it’s wish upon us against our wishes.
We have to listen to commentary like “it doesn’t look like there’s much contact but I don’t care”
In Scotland we don’t want to listen to another nations commentary.
Isn’t it incredible how many politicians and commentators have spoken about people potentially getting to vote on their future as being divisive. Yet are silent about the Orange marches going on in Glasgow.
I see there is a lot of angry discussion about me not having a poppy on today. I have done work for PoppyScotland in the past and have absolutely no issue wearing one. Normally this begins on the 1st of the month. I do have an issue with people feeling forced to wear one though.
Imposible agradecer a todos los que han estado en contacto hoy, ha sido increíble la variedad de personas que han estado en contacto, pero agradezco cada palabra de apoyo y aliento. Seguiré diciéndolo tal como lo veo. 2/2
A few weeks ago the authorities in Scotland came together to put pressure on multinational companies and say ‘enough is enough’ to online racism and general abuse.
We now need to see those same authorities showing leadership and challenging the anti-catholic racism in Scotland.
I see some media reporting that Rangers are closing in on a £5m signing of Hagi. Can anyone explain how the club lost £11m, was needing £10m to see the season out, then Coronavirus hit and has deferred huge amounts in wages but can be linked with a £5m signing?
John Beaton never even spoke a single word to Morelos after any of these incidents!
He saw them and didn’t even think they warranted having a word, never mind a card. That’s a concern.
I might be wrong but I’m not sure I saw the same indignation from certain quarters for a man (who isn’t working at the forefront of this crisis) when he travelled over 500 miles to a 2nd home while infected with Covid-19. Putting genuine pressure on the local services.
The UK is finished, the people in Scotland want to be Independent. It’s only a matter of time before it happens and by a larger winning margin than 2014.
It is beyond belief you can fly into Scotland stroll out the airport without any tests, checks or quarantine. What makes it even more staggering is our Government are powerless to implement border control & a UKGov who shouted “Take Back Control” for years yet aren’t doing it!!!!
Impact and fallout from Brexit is only really beginning. The damage done to Scotland will be used as some sort of perverse reasoning why we can’t be independent. Simply, we didn’t vote for this and no other nation on earth would accept this. Our future needs to be in our hands.
The silence from certain quarters over the weekend has been extremely telling and the attempts to repaint what happened are equally so too. There’s some serious deep routed issues here in Scotland that are definitely not simply football related.
Celtic were simply outstanding, an absolute joy to watch, particularly in the 2nd half. Odsonne Edouard is flourishing into a sensational player who will eventually make Celtic many multiples of the £9m fee they paid for him.
I don’t know about anyone else but I actually find it offensive to be told to embrace a post Brexit Scotland, which we never voted for, by the exact same people who told us we had to stay in UK to stay in EU!
Rangers level of entitlement is incredible. Writing letters wanting explanations and apologies for one perceived mistake. I must have missed the numerous other clubs letters this season. St.J must surely have done it after their game at Ibrox…..
Aberdeen’s incredible run of clean sheets and victories came to an end at Ibrox while Rangers incredible run of no penalties against continued, incredibly.
The songbook being belted out at Ibrox was contemptible, it sort of highlights how hollow Neil Doncaster’s words were during the week. An absolute disgrace to hear songs about the Lisbon Lions. When are the authorities going to even properly broach the subject.
🏴 SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE POLL
Yes - 57%
No - 43%
8-13 Jan
18th poll in a row showing clear majority for Independence.
Now is most definitely the time. No one should be able to stop a nation expressing it’s clear will.
Thursday I had some guy saying something totally unacceptable to me in front of my kids. Yesterday I was on my bike in the hills with my mate, when we got back we sat in the sun watching our kids running about, pure joy. Too much hate to fight, so focus on the good things in life
Congratulations to Celtic on 9 in a row. They are worthy winners of the title, during these unprecedented times though relegation doesn’t sit easy with me and we must try to find a solution for this.
Rangers conduct for almost 4 weeks has been absolutely unacceptable. They called for an investigation “without delay” but have not presented any evidence. They also said other clubs had seen the evidence, if that is the case then they should’ve passed the info to SPFL board.
I struggle to understand how we’ve gone from supporters rampaging through a city, to being banned for racist singing on a bus, to being arrested for racist singing in the streets to now having that group of supporters feeling like they’re being wronged.
Imagine a country where the elected leader giving daily public health announcements, during a global pandemic, on the public service broadcaster became a political issue.
I don’t think it’s a great look especially at a time when advice is so fluid and ever changing.
A group of guys on a bus singing racist chants are condemned and action taken. A larger group walk through a city chanting racist bile and appear to be escorted by police and nothing is done. How is this allowed to happen. Shameful.
Marching through the streets of Glasgow chanting “the famine is over why don’t you go home?” is utterly abhorrent. No different to a far-right protest chanting “refugees go home”. Not sectarianism but anti-Irish racism. The language that we use is important.
Scotland deficit 🏴- £12.6bn
Wales deficit - £13.7bn
N.I deficit - circa £9bn
Celtic total - £34.8bn
UK deficit 🇬🇧- £23.5bn
So England has a surplus of about £11bn & Scotland is creating 53% of UK deficit from 8-9% of population.
Aye f**king right!!!
No doubt difficult to take for Rangers but they’ve had a great season and just goes to show how incredibly difficult it is to win multiple trophies in the one season.
GSTK can not be the English and British national anthem. This is the crux of the issue. England is not Britain but on many fronts it either acts like it is or it’s facilitated that way.
Thats disrespectful and unacceptable, it’s also not sustainable.
What are Rangers doing to investigate a group of their fans singing racist chants yesterday? Last week there was condemnation from the club. Why is it different this time? Where is the pressure to act this time round?
I don’t think anyone could’ve seen this turnaround happening so quickly under Postecoglou. Still a long way to go, but this Celtic team are a real unit. Hounding teams down in packs and attacking in numbers with real quality.
If you have a general look online you get the impression a good number of Rangers fans feel their club is being unfairly criticised, over the last few weeks. Therein lies the problem.
Thoroughly deserved win for Hearts on to another semi final. As for Rangers, well for all the undoubted progress under Gerrard there’s still no trophies and for the money spent that’s a big concern!
Can’t wait to get back to talking about this great game of ours at Easter Road on Friday night. Should be a cracking
@ScottishCup
game between two good footballing sides 🏆🏴⚽️
The actions of Boli Bolingoli really beggars belief. He’s put the safety of so many in jeopardy, not to mention the football season as a whole. This isn’t simply stupidity this is an absolute disgraceful disregard of some many by one individual.
I genuinely thought the pictures of street parties in UK were a wind up. I’m absolutely stunned the BBC are showing this in the midst of a pandemic lockdown.
Only leave your house (for a street party) I don’t think so.....
It would appear Aberdeen have given those down south a little reality check. Apparently Rooney going to Salford meant they were a pub team. The team from the most overhyped league in the world maybe underestimated tonight? Think everyone in Scotland will be cheering the Dons on.
Scottish Tories will remain silent & ride it out. Media will state they tried to get them to comment but nobody was available, this will play out over the weekend & at start of the week they’ll all hope things have moved onto something else. Job done. Making fools of the people.
Since Killie have got Brophy up top with Kabamba they’ve become so much more threatening. Power and Dicker in midfield gives them the security to play 2 straight up top. Wonderful finish from Brophy to send Rangers home pointless and keep Killie in contention for top 6.
.
@RangersFC
why are you not talking about this problem? You are perhaps better placed than any other to start to tackle this issue. Your silence undermines any other good work you try to do. The time has come for the club to lead, looking the other way simply can’t be an option.
You can kick someone but don’t dare hold your arms aloft!
This is what our authorities are doing to the game. Completely outrageous how shambolic they have been this season.
I simply want my country to be a normal Independent nation, equal amongst its peers. No better than and most definitely no worse than others. The current constitutional situation we find ourselves in is so far from normal it’s scary.
Police Scotland have released a statement, politicians from every political party have spoken out, nation radio shows have discussed it and many other decent people have too, so why do
@RangersFC
think it’s acceptable to turn a blind eye?
Congratulations to Eintracht Frankfurt they win an incredibly close game with sensational penalties. Pot 1 in the Champions League awaits the Germans. Well done 🇩🇪🏆⚽️🇩🇪
Anyone taking issue with the baby box and its cost while ignoring the fact UK have a aircraft carrier with no aircraft on it and a massive hole in it that cost £3.1b, needs a wee look at themselves
Slaver Colstons statue being toppled in Bristol poses the question why on earth was it up in the first place. Similarly in Scotland we have a massive statue of the Duke of Sutherland towering over Golspie that really should come down. He played a pivotal role in the Clearances.
The turnaround from Copenhagen to the night is incredible. A complete performance. Steve Clarke has really started to mould this side into a proper team that is capable of some top drawer stuff. Fantastic to see 🏴⚽️🏆
Civic Scotland needs coordinated plan of action to combat the unacceptable behaviour we’ve seen again today. Football authorities need to address the elephant in the room. 20 guys on a bus behaviour shouldn’t be treated differently to 100 guys on the street or 50k in a stadium.
Every single player in blue deserves huge credit for that performance. Fantastic effort. Incredible desire. Thoroughly deserved point. Now bring on the Croats 🏴⚽️
#EURO2020
Game of the season so far at Parkhead today. Two tremendous sides going toe to toe, sensational goals and tactic sub plots. Football at its best and proof yet again of what an exciting game we have in Scotland.
I took my six month old out for a sleep in the buggy this morning and it was the quietest I’ve seen the place in weeks. Has anyone else noticed the same today or not? Hopefully the strong, clear and concise message from
@NicolaSturgeon
yesterday has resonated.
Stewart Robertson has just made things even more embarrassing for Rangers. To claim that the club haven’t spoken about bullying is beyond belief. Their statement on April 11th which the club RT’d today literally uses that word!
Rangers win away from home, Hibs comeback from 2 down to win and Aberdeen draw with a club from the ‘greatest league in the WORLD’ 😳
Not a bad night for our clubs in Europe 🏴🇪🇺🏆⚽️
England’s failed Test and Trace program gets more money than the whole Scottish Government budget. Just think about that.
£37b 🏴 Test and Trace
£34b 🏴 whole Scottish Budget
Just back from Oslo and you wouldn’t believe the amount of people there who are simply begging for Stockholm to govern over them again. They can’t believe there is even a debate being had in Scotland about wanting govern ourselves. Madness total madness.
That is never a second yellow card in a month of Sundays. Goldson is the one who catches Innocent but even that was nothing. For Goldson to go down is embarrassing.
2019 Resigns as Scot Tories leader - “the threat of spending hundreds of hours away from my home and family, to fight another election, now fills me with dread”
2020 - accepts entrance to the Lords (based in Westminster) hundreds of miles away.
Shameless doesn’t cover it.....
What a sad state of affairs to see the way
@_KateForbes
is being treated. There’s a good many people who need to have a serious look at themselves and the unsavoury actions of late.
1. Steve Clarke is a guy I’ve huge respect for & it grew last night at Ibrox after highlighting an issue that has poisoned our society for far too long.
Sectarianism is a cancer in our country and if we are serious about tackling it then it needs across the board action.
The question no unionist is able to answer is what is the democratic route to Independence, if not through referendum? A referendum that the Scottish Gov have been elected by the Scottish people to hold.
Why this tune? This is supposedly a celebration, so why use a tune so offensive to many, a tune connected to a song that some Rangers fans were charged for singing only last month. Why would you do this?
The Legacy of Ready.
Built into the fabric of our city, the fabric of the four. This is a memento of where we were, who we are now and where we're going. A celebration of the first 150 years.
Our history is our present, and thanks to the four, we have a

Champions League money isn’t coming into Ibrox and surely that’ll mean they need to sell players to try and balance this years accounts. Which will obviously have an impact on the team on the pitch.
Officials will say Hedges didn’t attempt to play the ball so it’s red card but the whole reason the law change came in was for fairness. Nobody can say the spirit of the law should get Hedges sent off. Definitely a penalty but never a red card.
Anyone who is surprised at that result at Rugby Park really hasn’t been paying attention. Steve Clarke and Kilmarnock continue to put any adversity aside and get results. Sensational Killie 🏴🏆⚽️
The words of a board member who has had a wee read of the “dossier”
“As yet I can’t find a whistle or anyone with the breath to blow it”
What a thoroughly unedifying episode this has been
Can you imagine the reaction if Richard Leonard was told “go back to England”
It would quite rightly be condemned by all.
Yet this sort of thing appears acceptable at Westminster.
Scotland is viewed with contempt and the sooner we waken up to this the better.
Murdo if you can point to this bile and hatred please do, if not I’d suggest you undermine the position you hold and playing to the galleries. I’ve long held the belief that you aren’t a serious individual and this only reaffirms that.
Double winners
@StJohnstone
have shown why it’s very difficult to give out awards before the season has finished. Callum Davidson surely Manager of the Year 🔵⚪️🏴⚪️🔵 🏆🏆
Murdo Fraser asking FM to apologise for asking Scotland to trust Alex Salmond and vote for Independence. When will Unionists understand Independence isn’t about a few individuals at a certain period of time.
As yet more Rangers fans are charged for racist behaviour it appears the overwhelming feeling amongst their support is that they’re being held to a higher standard. This problem of not accepting their club and support have a real problem is the first hurdle to solving the issue.
I’m not allowed to work on the Celtic game tonight from a studio at Ibrox along with Neil Lennon as Stewart Robertson the Rangers CEO says we are a security risk. Good to see Rangers ground breaking diversity and inclusion campaign ‘Everyone Anyone’ is working well…
Hartlepool has never voted for a Tory MP before. England has decided to go in a different direction and won’t be stopped by anyone. Scotland must be able to do the same.
