I'm not making this up. You can see how distinct Quebec is to the rest of N. America in it's family pattern. The traditional Québécois family is not the nuclear family but the 'authoritarian' stem extended family common in continental Europe (Germany) and Japan.
Family patterns in Quebec are actually quite distinct from English Canada and the US in that extended stem families were common all the way into the 40s and 50s. It was not rare for grandparents to live with their adult children and take care of their grandkids.
