Not one. Not two. Not three, four or five or even eight or nine … but 11 high school band members in Tupelo collapsed during practice in the extreme heat. Mississippi’s heat and cold-water immersion policies for football do not extend to band.

Also in that note…. You cannot be held responsible in a lawsuit for doing rectal temp (responsibly) when saving a life. However you cannot be held negligent by not doing it.

This a reminder to all athletic trainers. As sports start and temperatures rise, the gold standard (and only true valid measure of core body temperature) is rectal temperature! . Do not use the excuse of privacy to keep you from doing the right thing.
