Hey all! I don't know which academic friends are still on this app, but I'd love to hear some stories about what non (or alt) academic jobs you went on to do with your PhD in English. I received a rejection/some sad news today, & I'm feeling pretty disillusioned with academia.

Would any English instructors/professors here be wiling to share a sample of a "research statement" they have written in the past for prof. job applications? I have never had to write one before and would love a strong sample for inspiration/guidance!.

For example, I am very recently done my PhD and this semester I'm working at a university as a sessional instructor, but I have no idea yet if I'll be working there next semester. Does it make more sense to list myself as an independent scholar? Or just list the university?.

HELLO 👋🏼 Two updates: .-- Today I defended my dissertation after 6 long years of my PhD, and passed with revisions! Huge milestone reached! .-- In the fall semester, I will be teaching a 4th year English course as a Co-Instructor! The course is Contemporary Literary Theory. :).

My dissertation defense is THIS MONDAY, August 26th! 5 years of my undergrad, 1 year of my masters, and 6 years of my PhD. It's wild to think that my 12 years of post-secondary life as a student is coming to an end!.

I feel okay enough to finally read over my study notes today, but I'm still nervous about the time I've wasted not studying and dealing with this virus. Wish me luck for next Monday!!.
