: But Do You Actually Like Sport?
Aiming to give weekly insight into sport stories I'm following, what it's like to report at events, plus some recommendations. You can subscribe here:
The footage of Spain's national team effectively being forced to show up for camp is seriously troubling.
The WORLD CHAMPIONS threatened with legal action from their own federation - after a month of awful developments, it gets worse.
So messed up, so humiliating.
Ella Toone on scoring in a Euros final, but being "gutted" she did it without her eyelash extensions:
"I got them done and they fell out, now I'm at the final with no lashes - it's a nightmare. I'm actually really gutted. I'm off to Ibiza tmrw - get home, get my lashes done."
For Luis Rubiales to do this to Jenni Hermoso during the proudest moment of her career, stood next to Spain's royal family, and with the world's media watching, makes me sick. The complete audacity. Reminder that this is the leader of a federation that failed to back its players
The concerning fact here is the nonchalant manner Rubiales behaves towards Hermoso.
The FA president does this on the biggest stage of the sport with royalty and officials near him, surrounded by cameras.
Very disturbing, and frankly, concerning.
Men like Luis Rubiales need enablers to get away with their actions. The amount of people in the room applauding him are a sure sign of just how many he has.
These women both spoke up in solidarity with Jenni Hermoso, criticised the Luis Rubiales situation and spoke about misogyny in football. They deservedly took all the headlines.
But not a single man on the stage at last night's awards did the same, and that's the problem
Yesterday Andy Murray described Wimbledon’s controversial artwork featuring tennis’s greatest rivalries as “a bit strange” – but not because he was omitted from it.
The women being relegated to the back of the image was the problem, he said:
Spanish clubs now calling for FA president Luis Rubiales to go.
How is it Wednesday - nearly three whole days after the World Cup final's now infamous trophy ceremony - and he is STILL in his post?!

Four days of what should have been celebrations for Jenni Hermoso and the Spain team dominated by the Luis Rubiales saga.
All power to Hermoso for making this statement, but she shouldn't have to demand action. The federation continues to drag its heels.
Novak Djokovic has called for
#Wimbledon
organisers to consider bringing forward Centre Court start time from 1:30pm - he suggests 12pm is a better time
Emma Hayes when asked her reaction to the news out of the NWSL this week: "There’s no point in me saying it’s been a crap week for women. It feels like it’s always a crap week for women." 1/
Alexander Zverev’s Melbourne run has brought tennis’s lack of a domestic violence policy into sharp focus - AGAIN.
If Daniil Medvedev wins later, tennis execs should not feel relieved. This is a mess they should have seen coming
Tense exchange at Aryna Sabalenka's press conference, when a Ukrainian journalist asked her a pointed question about her previous support for Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko:
Official attendance at the Nou Camp: 91,553
The largest crowd at a women's club match ever, the largest attendance in the women's game since the World Cup final in 1999.
Luis Rubiales says he took the decision to finally resign after speaking to his daughters. You almost wish he'd thought of his daughters - who he holds "so dear" - before three weeks of misogynistic/hurtful/idiotic behaviour
I'm in Dubai to see Novak Djokovic's return to the court at the Dubai Championships - his first event since he was deported from Australia last month.
He's out on the practice court now, will play his first round match against Lorenzo Musetti tomorrow

Three protesters have disrupted Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova's semifinal chanting "end fossil fuels". Play has been stopped for nearly 10 minutes, security struggling to get the final protester to leave
New York crowd not shy about voicing their thoughts

Absolutely sickkk of this accreditation shitshow. So many journalists who cover the women's game cannot go to the SF because.. there's no room at Bramall Lane. Somewhat predictable, no? Outlets like ours want to give the Eng SF the same treatment as the men's but can't
#WEURO2022
Loved hearing about Liverpool helping out Marine, by offering the use of their training ground. But it made me wonder (as many before me have!), why are their women's side still training at Tranmere Rovers when the club have a £50m shiny new Kirkby base?
"They would be super proud" 😊

The Princess of Wales has arrived at
#Wimbledon
Here she is slipping into the stands on Court 18 at British No1 Katie Boulter's first round match. She's sat with Debbie Jevans and Laura Robson.
Eddie Jones calling Emma Raducanu 'the young girl who won the US Open' makes his comments all the more patronising and infuriating.
Fyi, today Raducanu made her debut in the top 20 world rankings - marking a continued *upward* trajectory since her US Open win...
Huge impact on women's game, as many of this weekend's matches were due to be played at men's stadiums - very tricky to reschedule. Was expected to be a record-breaking weekend of attendances
This weekend's WSL matches are to be postponed, like the fixtures in the men's Premier League and EFL, as a mark of respect. Expecting a statement confirming this imminently
A major men's team being sponsored by a sanitary towel brand - ie using their platform to support women's health and smash taboos around periods.. not something you see everyday 👏
FA has instructed girls at RTCs/academies to suspend play during lockdown, boys not yet given the same instructions from PL/EFL. It's left coaches confused: "It doesn’t look great. Coaching both girls and boys, half of my job is off and half of it is on."
Bit of *personal news*
📍 I’ve relocated to Barcelona for a few months. Big thanks to the
@TelegraphSport
for supporting me in this. Buzzed to be working in a city I love, finally put my Spanish to practice and to be here during a pivotal moment for women’s sport in Spain ✊ 1/
While a trio of prominent, middle-aged men pontificated on her ability to hack it in elite sport, Emma Raducanu showed more poise than they could muster between them by facing the cameras again.
My column for
@TelegraphSport
@WomensSport
Chatted with England's Sarah Glenn about the criticism she receives for - wait for it - wearing make up.
It's "demeaning" and she is (quite rightly) sick of it: "Do you really think one layer of foundation is going to affect how I bowl?"
Sales of Christen Press and Tobin Heath shirts outsold any of those of Manchester United’s men’s players for the first three days after their high-profile signings [

I remember Iga Swiatek being asked a dumb question in a press conf (after winning her 2nd Roland Garros title) about why she doesn’t wear much make-up on court. She responded with more grace than the journalist deserved.
That’s why news of this deal made me v happy this morning
💄 I just became the first Polish ambassador of Lancôme and first athlete among its brand ambassadors like Zendaya or Julia Roberts... This is huge for me and I’m looking forward to this journey. Stay tuned for more!

Bit of news.. I’m leaving the Telegraph after nearly 6 years. It’s been a complete privilege to work with/learn from the best in the business 🗞️
Heading into freelance life from April, with a particular focus on tennis/football/women’s sport. Very much open to commissions ✍️🎙️🙋🏻♀️

FA latest reconfirms boys’ academy level (15+) is allowed to continue based on the them being classed as “elite” and some educational exemptions for boys’ RTCs. Meanwhile all girls’ academy/RTC are not exempt as “their resources” do not qualify as elite. Story to follow
Very surreal to get shortlisted in the sports category for the

Bristol City have asked for clarification from the FA on what qualifies a game for postponement. Tanya Oxtoby says more transparency was needed from the FA to "take away that feeling of bigger clubs having different treatment".
Total respect to Qinwen Zheng - who is just 19 - for talking so openly about how her period affected her performance against Iga Swiatek. So refreshing to hear this be part of the conversation
"I think all of us hope for a place where we feel safe on a daily basis to go to work, walk the streets, live our lives without threat and fear. And that’s not about what’s gone on in America - in general I want a better place for women, as we all do. But it starts at home." 3/

Been said a lot this week, but I'm saying it again: wondering when the police are going to step in the way they deemed "appropriate" at Sarah Everard's CANDLELIT VIGIL at these football protests?

Really enjoyed this sit down with Vivianne Miedema today.
Key takeaways - her very low tolerance for BS, how she's pushing the standards BTS at Arsenal and this great quote: "I’m me and that’s my strength." (Brb going to get that printed on a t-shirt)
Was a pleasure to chat w/ broadcaster Mary Carillo about pulling out of covering the Laver Cup, due to Alexander Zverev's involvement.
She says TV networks, fellow pundits, players + governing bodies are hiding from the Zverev domestic abuse allegations

Zakia Khudadadi was set to become Afghanistan's first female Paralympian. "I'm so happy," she said in an interview last week.
But she couldn't leave Kabul in time. Like millions of women, her future under the Taliban will be heartbreakingly different
92,003 fans. A new official world record attendance for women's sport set at a college volleyball match in Nebraska last night 🤯👏

Great conversation on BBC radio this morn between
@PHShriver

about safeguarding in tennis. Both emphasised how enforcing professional standards as well as changing the culture of coaching are essential to improving safety/conditions for young women on tour
As West Ham's

Think this is the first time England have conceded more than once during Sarina Wiegman's tenure, no?
Can't help but agree with Emma Hayes on comms: if you're going to lose a game ahead of a major tournament, now isn't a bad time for England to do it
