Hurricane Erin has rapidly intensified to a category 4 hurricane and has gone a tad bit more west than expected. Very real chance this thing could go category 5. It’s still rapidly intensifying too, with latest data showing winds around 161 MPH.

This is still very far out and is subject to change, but the GFS is highlighting a possible hurricane that will strike the Carolinas and make its way to the DMV as a tropical storm/post tropical storm. This would occur mid August. #vawx #mdwx #dcwx

The DMV is under a moderate (3/5) risk for excessive rainfall and a slight risk (2/5) for severe weather. This is driven by heavy rainfall and winds. Models suggest average rates ~1.8in, and the closer you get to Baltimore the higher the rate. Flash flooding will be possible.
