Very honored and thankful for this award, which I share with my amazing group @MMicrobiomesLab, former students and postodcs, collaborators and sponsors. Teamwork makes the dream work. Cliche but so real. Thank you all!! @KaustResearch @KAUST_News @aeon_collective

Yesterday I shared the protocol and all the steps for using in situ devices for culturing microbiomes with KAUST grad students. They beautifully assembled iChips (@Rawan_lab photo from the class) and engaged in the discussion. Then, in the evening our paper about iChips was out!

Happy to share our latest paper about using in situ devices to culture the coral microbiome! We increase the culturability in 570% when comparing with standard methods, and we were able to retrieve species that were only found through amplicon and metagenomic sequencing 🪸❤️
🚨🚨 pre-proof out at @iScience_CP. Culturing the microbial dark matter of corals; The culturability of coral-associated microbes increased by up to 570% using in situ devices 😱 @modolon_fs @JuniaSchultz @carenvilela @Gustavo_Duarte

🚨New paper out! Lower density and higher porosity of the coral skeleton were correlated with the inoculation of pathogen and mitigated by probiotics. BMCs also substantially increased calcification https://t.co/Lq6zIdgPb8
