So: (From my essay.) "The modal 25-year-old journalist was no longer a cub reporter covering and being accountable to the local community he or she lived among, but rather a graduate school grad lobbing insults at distant political figures from the relative safety of Brooklyn. As

I am one of the three members of the LA Times editorial board who resigned over the owner's craven decision not to endorse. Here is my column in the Hollywood Reporter about why this was different from an ordinary disagreement between board and owner.

I respect owner Patrick Soon-Shiong’s right to interfere with editorials; that is one place where he ethically can do so. But an 11th hour decision to pull an endorsement of Kamala Harris is, whether...

@OrtizKicks We, of course, would ask him, “Can you hear the drums, Fernando?” and he’d just roll his eyes. After he joined the Spanish-language broadcast team, it was always a good day seeing him in the press box when the Dodgers were in town. 9/10

A 🧵on Fernando Valenzuela (🙏). If you were alive in 1981, you'll never forget "Fernandomania." It was long before the Internet and it was wonderful. SI, The Sporting News & Sport Magazine were all over it. The Dodgers were on TV a lot that summer. 1/10

Greatly saddened by the too-soon passing of #FernandoValenzuela. As a Mexican-American kid and #Dodgers fan, I was among the millions inspired and thrilled by his magic in the 1981 season. QEPD. ¡Y que viva, Fernando! He was the rare Mexican hero seen in mass media. Go, Dodgers!

"A vision and voice for a new America" - I know Fresno-born Chicano designer @NEWYORKWILLY Willy Chavarria is big, but it still amazes me to see his name offered up in this @washingtonpost story from #FashionWeek. @MauraJudkis

I’ve seen three TikTok creators make content based on @denverpost news stories today. When you say you get your news from TikTok, Twitter, IG, etc., a reminder that if it’s a real story, it came from somewhere. Without local news, the news ecosystem is SOL.

As a writer and film-lover, I'm stunned to NOT have seen most of these films - to NOT have known about them, or read about them when they were released. What does that say about access and marketing? I'm bookmarking this thread. I've got homework to do.
I’d read an essay on male and female monologues in cinema. I have a theory that because misogyny is real, the female monologue is an inherently more assertive act. As in: it’s common to hear a man roar. But, then you hear Julia Fiona Roberts.

Years ago, at @YaleThread, I saw presentation of NYT's award-winning "Snowfall." At the first scroll, the room of storytellers let out an audible gasp - the innovation was so new to us. Today, I marvel at this piece in today's @nytimes. Wow.
