“Should” is a normative claim. I think district lines should by non-partisan everywhere 82% of Yes votes explicitly stated they voted yes to counter GOP changes elsewhere - not that it was the way things should be done. These are completely consistent beliefs to hold.
California just passed Prop 50 which takes House seats by redistricting. It rejects the non-partisan commission drawing district lines. But in this same vote, 92% of voters said a non-partisan commission should draw district lines. Californians are dumb. https://t.co/b32UcnlTAq

Elitism is definitely a bit of an issue, but this also could mean that economists are (i) easier to move and (ii) more likely to look for outside offers / move. I’d like to see data that also looks at that
Economics has an elitism problem. It is the *only* discipline that exhibits a high and growing institutional concentration among its Nobel laureates. It's basically a rite of passage to have been at one of only eight elite US universities to win the prize.
