The Needfire, by @mkhardywrites (pub by @Solarisbooks) is a great sapphic gothic novel, a proposal that blends classic motifs with a touch of modernity, perfect if you like highly atmospherical books. Full thoughts: https://t.co/5mYYUvptev

Just finished Asunder by Kerstin Hall and it IS as haunting & tense & beautiful as the blurbs say, but also consider that it: - is a fantasy road trip novel - has companions as well-written as any Dragon Age instalment - has dead gods, living gods, & giant spiders

@djdaisyjohnson @JuliaArmfield @FancyEliza A real vibe here of just having been invited into Julia Armfield's lounge here where your much smarter, funnier mates are having this freewheeling chat while you try to keep up. Which I (M) personally love.

@djdaisyjohnson @JuliaArmfield @FancyEliza Talking monstrosity: is it possible to write horror and monsters and not grapple with what came before? A: fear is a regressive emotion so it's difficult to avoid falling into old tropes; but also there's value to reimagining and revisiting it from different povs and settings.
