@djdaisyjohnson @JuliaArmfield @FancyEliza A real vibe here of just having been invited into Julia Armfield's lounge here where your much smarter, funnier mates are having this freewheeling chat while you try to keep up. Which I (M) personally love.

@djdaisyjohnson @JuliaArmfield @FancyEliza Talking monstrosity: is it possible to write horror and monsters and not grapple with what came before?. A: fear is a regressive emotion so it's difficult to avoid falling into old tropes; but also there's value to reimagining and revisiting it from different povs and settings.

@djdaisyjohnson And now the spectre of environmental collapse has been summoned. Is this is unavoidable horror we're left to grapple with now in fiction to reflect the world around us?.

Really interesting discussion about the question 'why don't they leave?' - @djdaisyjohnson explores this in Hotel by making the characters trapped by familial or economic factors. They have to go into the haunted room because it's literally their job; they can't not.
