Pippin has had a very chilled second day home, with breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner everything a growing hobbit kitten needs 💙🤗
For folks who followed me yesterday for Pippin pics, my account is usually mostly weird horror, sci fi, Scottish folklore, and writing and bookish chat...amongst the now occasional kitten pics 💁♀️🐈📚🤗
This morning Pippin did a wee head nudge into my chin for the first time, and it was the sweetest thing for at least two minutes...and then he bit me 🙃🥲
In a slightly unexpected (and very exciting!) turn of events, I'm going to be taking up a writing Fellowship at Hawthornden Castle Literary Retreat near the end of November! A month in a Scottish castle just to write...not quite sunk in yet! 🤗🎉🏰✍️
In Scotland, trick-or-treating is known as guising, a custom that traces back to a time when children were disguised as spirits to blend in with those active on Samhain night. When guising, children receive gifts to ward off evil in exchange for a story or song.

In Scottish Hebridean folklore the aurora is known as Na Fir Chlis – the merry dancers who are supernatural sky warriors. When the lights move fast, then a great battle is ongoing between clans. As blood fell from the wounded to Earth it created bloodstones.

Thinking about writing villains, and how sometimes simplicity is best - like was there anything more terrifying than that penguin disguised as a chicken from Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers?
✨EXCITING NEWS✨ I have a wee book coming out with the fantastic

The Nuckelavee or "devil of the sea" was a terrifying Orcadian sea creature, part horse, part man with no skin, and black blood. Its breath could cause droughts, spoil crops or bring about a plague. The only way to escape its wrath was to step into fresh water.

The Clava Cairns in the Scottish Highlands are prehistoric burial grounds that may have inspired Outlander's Craigh na Dun. Twenty years ago, a Belgian tourist took a stone from a cairn but then sent it back with a letter claiming it had cursed his family.

The Ghillie Dhu - a tree and nature guardian from Scottish folklore - roams the birch woods in the north-west Highlands, clothed in leaves and moss. The name was the origin for the ghillie suit, a form of camouflage clothing used today.

In Scottish Highland lore, the devil was sometimes known as Black Duncan or Black Donald. With cloven feet and the voice of a bleating goat, he would haunt buildings as an omen of a calamity to come, and would often appear at card games - or the "devil's books".

In the birch woods by Gairloch in the Scottish Highlands, it was said that the Ghillie Dhu - a tree guardian - wandered there, cloaked in leaves and moss. Though he'd often help lost children, he wasn't so kind to adults.

First story acceptance of 2024, for a Scottish folklore-inspired story about strange seas, weird weather, and the creatures that come to shore at night...appropriate as I got the email as I was out getting some fresh air by stormy seas up north 🌊🖤 more soon!

The Ceasg is a Scottish mermaid half-woman, half-salmon. In some tales, she swallowed men whole, trapping them in her stomach. To rescue them, her soul - often contained in an enchanted egg - had to be destroyed. If caught, she could also grant three wishes.
