WHITE SPINES TOUR (in which I visit every bookshop/charity shop mentioned in @nicholasroyle’s ‘White Spines’, pub. @saltpublishing): First to tick off the list, the excellent @BookcaseCrlisle, which I visited yesterday. A solid start. Sadly no inclusions/inscriptions.

House of Hodge (no.87) is a wonderful single-room charity bookshop. Some excellent and very tempting stock but I resisted on this occasion. It was difficult to leave empty-handed, though #whitespinestour

First of two shops on Blackstock Road is the Second Chance charity shop (no.86). Had to venture deep into the shop to find the books but came out with a lovely Sackville-West in Virago Modern Classics #whitespinestour

Last time I went to @OxfamCrouchEnd (no.85) I was madly hungover after @LMcKnightHardy’s Water Shall Refuse Them launch. Much more pleasant experience this time around #whitespinestour

Hornsey Parish Church on Cranley Gardens has a basement bookshop (no.84) that opens every other Friday and Saturday. Fortunately for me, it was open today #whitespinestour

Not so much #whitespinestour as the Simenon tour. Picked up another Maigret in @OxBksMuswell (no.83) and was advised by the nice man behind the till to seek out the early BBC adaptations.

Day Two of #whitespinestour in London. Contrary to what Google says, Mind’s Archway Road branch (no.82) is not permanently closed, but very much open. Nothing for me on the shelves though:

Second of two Notting Hill bookshop dogs in @BookExchangeNH (no.81). Prices a little high but worth every penny in my eyes for this lovely Simenon with Romek Marber cover #whitespinestour

Sadly nothing took my fancy in the Oxfam Bookshop on Notting Hill’s Portobello Road (no.80) but a lovely shop all the same. The spaniel howled until it was permitted to leave #whitespinestour

Lovely walk through Regent’s Park to reach @OxfamMary (no.79) where I bought A Friend of Mary Rose for my mother, who has a friend called Mary Rose #whitespinestour

Short walk to @WaldenBooks (no.78). A wonderful bookshop on Harmood Street in Camden. The Simenon collections grows still further #whitespinestour

It was a real pleasure to chat with John about his latest collection of stories, which features artwork by Albert Irvin.
We had a great time on Wednesday launching The Book of Joys, the latest in our collaboration series, when @johnsaulauthor read his stories and chatted to @mjadamson15 in front of some works by artist Albert Irvin – thanks to @SaulHayFineArt Gallery for hosting (and taking pix!).

Tomorrow night I’ll be chatting with @nicholasroyle about his book SHADOW LINES. In preparation I visited Sheffield on Saturday to tick a few more shops off the list, so I can now say I’ve visited over 75… just in case it were to come up. https://t.co/GKQm9MWBhD
Saturday. Took a drive over the misty Peak District to Sheffield. First stop: Oxfam bookshop on Glossop Rd (no.74). Closed due to no electricity so I, like the woman pictured, was left out in the cold (was quite warm actually) #whitespinestour

Final stop: the wonderful Next Chapter Books (no.76) on the edge of Endcliffe Park. Well-organised, compact, and an affable proprietor - what’s not to like? Added to my ever-growing Simenon collection #whitespinestour

A very pleasant walk away from the centre along leafy suburban streets brought me to my next stop: Oxfam Nether Edge (no.75). Excellent shop, great selection of books. Old poetry and drama volumes great for inclusions and inscriptions #whitespinestour
