‘Representation is not a privilege, it’s a Right‘...grateful to be part of the change that’s taking place. We want to normalise ‘representation’ to be truly inclusive of wider society. All children should feel represented in books and stories to give them the value they deserve.

My acceptance speech last night was a pure mind blank moment, and I didn't say what I wanted, so just to add a huge thank you to everyone for their support. Books build empathy and we should shout from the roof tops about children's books. Hope, empathy, joy.

Heartbreaking news, the bold, brilliant and inspiring Alex Wheatle has left this world. He paved the way for so many authors of colour and was an inspiration in the industry. May he rest in peace and power. #inclusivebooks #representationmatters

The @jhalakprize submission window closes tomorrow. Publishers - if you haven't sent in books but want to, get in touch with the Jhalak Prize organisers! I know for a fact that some publishers leave it very late or don't send in books at all. That is a disservice to your authors.

Reminded how I was being told by (white) publishing folk already in 2018 that “diversity as a trend is over.” There was never any commitment to change from publishing. Why would there be? Short🧵
