Interesting to see how this will be applied in practice. Seems like this will push more people towards the Remitly, Wise, PayPal and Crypto providers.

Beneficial to digital-first companies and a disadvantage to traditional cash-based providers. Seems like this will effect lower-income senders who rely on remittance to send money in and out of the US and push them towards electronic systems.

Who pays? The sender / originator of the transaction. Tax collected by remittance transfer providers (banks, money transfer services). Exclusion of electronic transfer types includes ACH, debit/credit, wires, crypto.

The move to cashless continues. included in the big beautiful bill is a tax on cash & cash equivalent US remittances. Rate: 1%.Starts: Jan 1, 2026.Types: cash, money orders, cashier’s checks.Excluded: Digital payments.*For all senders in US, regardless of citizenship status.
