The answer was B. cereus, a toxin-producing facultatively anaerobic Gram +ve bacterium. The toxin formed in the unrefrigerated rice before it was eaten, & caused the emetic form of the illness. This type of food poisoning usually goes away in 24 hrs. #MicrobeDetective
