I do really like how they had Claude bring a lot of his distinct style sensibilities into this alt and how everywhere he goes he's always just sneaking in a little bit of stuff from Almyra lol. I believe this is the first time we've seen the curled S pattern on him though!

You ever think about how Cyril outwardly says he wants to separate himself from his past in Almyra but his only keepsake from that time is his waist cloth from pre-ts and in the TS his main color becomes that cloth's color and the motif of the cloth is repeated on his armor

I think when talking about skintone for characters like Claude (and Petra) and why they register as darker in people's minds, you have to remember the context of 3H where white skin was very, very pale. Remove them from that, put them in a game with generally higher saturation

I think what frustrates me the most about the Edelgard/Petra A support in 3 hopes is that the writers have Petra say that she fights in the war because she's friends with Edelgard. That framing erases the underlying problem that Brigid is still not independent at that point.

It's kind of frustrating how whether it's hatred or defense, even in discussions here, Cyril is still used primarily as a tool to criticize or uplift characters of choice. He's a rare glimpse in this upper class obsessed game into the human costs of their decisions.

Here's the comparison for Cyril and Cornelia also by the same artist within a similar time frame. Cyril's actually a little darker than what you'd get just by color picking his portrait! But it reads truer to what his skintone is in 3H because FEH tends to be more saturated

I feel like the people going "Dimitri would never say this" kind of miss the point. The story is awful with proper follow up to address these problems, but lines like this and Judith's in GW are meant to highlight Claude's point about Fodlan's xenophobia that many in fandom deny.
That is... shockingly racist for a story element that gets kind of left by the wayside

I feel like people tend to forget how proactive Claude can be when it comes to war. He's not the type to start it, but he will absolutely try to finish it. The idea that he would simply passively sit it out and hope for the best outcome is completely contrary to his character.

I feel like all the (deserved) critique that 3h gets regarding it's handling of race makes people perceive it as the worst of FE when I really don't think that's true. It takes much bigger swings, actually attempting to tackle things head on without fantasy race metaphors

I think the artist (and most of Claude's feh art artists) do try to use the 3H portraits as at least a starting point, the problem is I don't think that's generally done for lighter skinned characters, who are just on "gut instinct" and usually that ends up being more saturated.

I do think that the GD are the most "mercenary"-esque of the classes. I think that's why I think Shez and Byleth and Jeralt seem to vibe a little more naturally with them. They're comrades and friends sure, but they aren't bound together by obligation or duty.

So the writers side step all this and have Petra say she's doing it just because she's Edelgard's friend and she won't abandon her, which is sweet. The romantic music in the support makes me think they really don't see how the situation is forcing Petra to fight.

It's fascinating how Claude interacting with Edelgard will present himself as more ruthless and ambitious, while with Dimitri he'll present himself as more flighty and callous. The truth of who Claude is as a person isn't properly reflected in either interaction in isolation.

Claude cares about every faction and would prefer a way where people can come to a compromise but also won't hesitate to answer violence with violence if necessary before attempting diplomacy again and apparently that is just really hard to grasp

Neither Edelgard nor Dimitri even give much acknowledgement of his situation, Claude had to confront Almyra's failings and his own blindspots regarding his dreams, and his own family's failures in preventing Cyril from being orphaned and becoming a child soldier.
