Mike Piper joins me on the "Bogheheads on Investing" podcast to discuss what to do if named as the Executor of an estate, with special emphasis on surviving spouses. This is critical information we often avoid thinking about! @bogleheads @michaelrpiper

Not everyone who wants to attend a @bogleheads conference can afford to, which is why we hire a professional crew to videotape all of the sessions. I'm proud to announce that you can now view EVERY conference session via the Bogle Center's website. Enjoy!

Favor request: A person I know is looking to donate to a 501(c)(3) that gives money to young people of limited means, so they can start investing (e.g., "Here's $1,000 to open your first Roth IRA."). I have not yet found an org that does that. Do you know of one?

I voted last week. Yes I was voting against Trump. But I was very much voting FOR Harris. Thrilled to vote for a person with experience in the judicial, legislative, and executive branches of government. A normal person with empathy who is genuinely seeking to serve.
I don’t see this presidential election as a choice between Harris and Trump. I see it as referendum on Trump, and Harris just happens to be the Democratic on the ballot. Votes for Harris are not votes for Harris, they’re votes against Trump.

I've become a huge evangelist for people loosening the purse strings earlier in their retirements, thanks to the work of @michaelrpiper and my own personal story. 👇 https://t.co/uuTT76iHjf

Big inheritances can be a sign of underconsumption, suboptimal planning.

If you think this is a net-benefit to humanity, rather than a refinement of the already-weaponized engagement algo, you’re worried about the wrong things in AI. Not as a Meta investor, but as a human being in the USA, did you actually think “Gosh, what would make this world
AI revenues won't just show up as software revenue. From Meta yesterday: “Improvements to our AI-driven feed and video recommendations have led to an 8% increase in time spent on Facebook and a 6% increase on Instagram this year alone.”

Shocker: The CEO of @Intuit (owner of TurboTax) doesn’t want you to know that they're lobbying to make your life harder – so much so that they asked a podcast to delete part of his interview. Give me a break. Whether he likes it or not, the IRS is expanding free Direct File.
Corporate PR for @Intuit berated a journalist for asking a tough but fair question about the company's lobbying against free online tax filing (!) ...and then demanded that the outlet delete that part of the podcast (!!!) https://t.co/kt3kUdP331

Here's my message to young people: you wouldn't let a bunch of old people decide what music you're going to listen to or what clothes you're going to wear – so don't let them decide your future. Make a plan to vote today: https://t.co/V3uLF7XRqt

Insanely thrilling, top 100 for all books. 👇🏻 At some point I might be blasé about it but not yet.

Your day is probably not going well when a) you're not a health care professional and yet b) you find yourself reading a paper about elective finger amputation. https://t.co/eye2AG1dSF

There is something a lot of people forget to include as part of their estate plan... Pets. 🐾 It may sound silly to some, but A LOT of pets end up in places their owner likely would never have wanted them to end up - all because they weren't "accounted for" in the estate plan.

Medicare Advantage is run by for profit insurance companies. They can ration your care and refuse to cover the doctors you like. If you get sick, to go back to traditional Medicare with a Medigap plan, you have to go through underwriting and they can deny you coverage.
#Medicare open enrollment = heavy advertising touting benefits for #MedicareAdvantage plans w/o telling the difference or explaining risk. @CarolynMcC can you help?

Living longer doesn’t always mean living well. The gap between life span and health span has serious financial implications. Planning ahead for healthcare costs is more important than ever! Great insights from @GregIacurci @CNBC on this important topic. https://t.co/12RbJgVhLL

Older Americans are spending more years with chronic ailments, which often come with higher medical bills, experts said.

Inheritance wise (assuming you have more than you need)... Gifting your kid $100k at 32 will positively impact them and their kids (your grandkids) 10x more than $1M+ when you die, and they're 55+ Their life is all but lived if you wait till you pass. Impact becomes minimal.

This is good news! It means wages (National Average Wage Index) have grown faster than prices (CPI-W).
Social Security tax creep is real. For 2025, the "taxable maximum" will be $176,100, up about 4.4% from $168,600 in 2024, according to the Social Security Administration. In contrast, only a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment for those collecting will take effect in 2025.

Notable to me that every for-profit information hub is injecting AI into every corner of their services while the largest nonprofit information hub is fighting it off like their the Night's Watch
New: some Wikipedia editors have formed WikiProject AI Cleanup, “a collaboration to combat the increasing problem of unsourced, poorly-written AI-generated content on Wikipedia.”

You earned ~500 new super fans today in case it wasn’t obvious. The rest of my morning was mostly people coming up and saying “that attorney this morning, I hadn’t encountered her before but WOW. Can we have her come back next year?”
What a great group attending @bogleheads! 💫 They: Share stories with one another ✅ Ask great questions ✅ Are attentive to the speakers ✅ As I boot, scoot, and boogie to the airport to head home, I feel very grateful to have been in front of the room for such an awesome
